Dear lens gurus,

I am trying to identify options for a WA lens that will cover 11x14. High performance is not critical, as I don't have a big budget for this project, so modern beauties like the 200mm Grandy aren't realistic options. Any ideas, however wild, are welcome and appreciated.

Jay:

I used a 240mm Dagor regularly. Covered well with allowance for movement. I believe the 210 Angulon will cover with some movement (it should anyway; my 210 covers 7x17)

Good luck.

If you get a medium length Protar V by Bausch & Lomb, it will work nicely. Check the Cameraeccentric info site for the old catalogs to determine the length you need. You can go about one size shorter than what's listed usually with Protars.

An "8x10" Protar V is around 7" EFL and should cover 11x14, although not with a lot of movement, but the lens will not be terribly hard to find.
A little less frequently seen would be a 210mm(ish) Protar V, which will offer a good deal more movements.

Look out for a 240mm or 270mm Computar. These lenses will cover 11X14 with quite a bit of movement. A few 240mm and 270mm Kowa Graphics have the same coverage as Computar and generally go for a lot less. But only a small percentage of them have as much coverage as the Computars, but they look alike.

Thank you all very much! I didn't realize there were so many options. This is very good news!

Jay, even a 300mm will be WA on 11x14. That's equivalent to 210 on 8x10 and 105 on 4x5. A Turner Reich or Wolly 12 inch-ish would be good vintage choices. Not too hard to find, not too expensive. Even less expensive in a barrel.

Michael, do you think a 12" Turner/Reich would cover 11x14? I have one of those!

The 183 Protar V that I got from eddie gunks has more room for 8x10 moves than my Kodak 2D can provide, and eddie urges me to try 11x14.

mine does; the GM lit says each triple convertible should cover two formats larger than intended when stopped down. so, from 8x10 to 10x12 and 11x14. try it, you'll like it!:)

If I ever become rich, it would be just my luck to be famous, too. What agony fame would be! I'll never understand those who pursue it.

If you have a Packard shutter, you might try a 240mm Repromaster. I have a 210mm Repromaster that just misses covering 11x14 by about 1/2 inch in each of the corners. I have a 240mm Repromaster, but haven't mounted it on a lensboard. I'm sure the 240mm will cover 11x14.

If you want vintage, I'd watch for an old Wide Angle Rectilinear. I have a 125mm Nehring that covers 8x10 very sharply, even into the corners. 180mm or more should take care of 11x14.
