my own experience says to deal with Freestyle. I get orders shipped to Brisbane reasonably frequently (at least once a month) and the cost is much less than buying locally even when freight is included. Provided you keep the order under $1000 (AUD) there will be no problems with customs, and in terms of shipping time, an order placed on a friday is usually with me the following friday which is much better than what I can get from Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane.

Price wise, I have no complaints and the service is outstanding.

Have a look at "cheap_shots_au" on eBay. You'll need to ask him if he can get some 8x10.

No 8x10 will be "cheap" in The Great Southern Land!!

I think I saw in another thread that you actually ended up buying a 4x5, not 8x10. If that is the case, the cheapest place for you to get film is probably Shanghai film sold on Ebay. Freestyle film prices are about the same, but shipping outside the US is very expensive. I use the Shanghai and am happy with it. If you buy it, make sure you look at all the listings, as pricing varies considerably. Just choose the cheapest. 5x7 has also become available recently, and although I have yet to see 8x10, perhaps that will be available soon.

Best, Tim

Keep a close eye on eBay. I bought 50 sheets of Feb 2010 Velvia from a Pro shooter (hopefully she knew how to store it!!) for $30...

Andrew,

This is the guy I previously mentioned.

Good guy; I have bought film from him in the past. Look at paying with direct debit as you'll save on postage.

If you want cheap, how about making paper negatives instead of using film?

Or using x-ray film? It's ortho only, double sided emulsion, and prone to scratching, but once you get the hang of it you can make perfectly good images.

I'll agree with this. Develop in Pyrocat-HD in tanks and you will be amazed at what you get. You can even use a red safe light during development.

Curious. I find B&H cheaper, at least for FP4+ in 4x5.

For Ilford and Kodak sheet film I head to Badger Graphic. For Foma & Adox and all my printing paper it is Freesyle. Both give great service and reasonable prices (if anything 8x10 can indeed be reasonable)for excellent products.

Freestyle has great prices for people who live in the US, but their (and everybody else) international shipping charges can easily double the cost of an order. Shanghai is cheaper for folks outside the US not because the film is cheaper, but because the shipping is cheaper. For folks in the US, buying Shanghai costs as much as buying better known film from a discounter, which is probably the reason it has not become more popular in the states.

I like very much the service and prices of Fotoimpex in Berlin, Germany.
Just got a load of chemicals and baryt paper, another load in film is on the way: 35mm, 120, 9x12, 13x18, 8x10...
They always pack very well, and I never had a reason to complain. They sell Adox, Efke, Foma, Ilford, Fuji, Kodak...
I can only recommend their splendid service!
They have rescued me from the poor, and expensive, offer in the portuguese market.
Cheers,
Rui
