I would like know how to define Contrast in CCD. They say it is

C = (Average Target Intensity - Avg Back ground Intensity) / Peak white noise

Michelson contrast is defined like: C = (Imax - Imin) / (Imax + Imin)
where in case of CCD image Imax is my signal /target while Imin is the background flux.

I do not understand
1) what is Peak white noise here?
2) I think contast should depend on the Quantum efficiency of the camera but any of the above two definiotions of contrast does not have any dependence over the quantum efficiency.
