Hi there,
I was wondering whether you would recommend I get a polarizer for my "new" LF camera. I have always used them with my other cameras and on a sunny day like today, I wished I'd had one... Question is, which size do i need for a 150mm Xenar and where should I look for one?
Thanks for your help.

The thread size is 34mm.

A Schneider 150mm 4.5 Xenar for large format uses a 40.5mm screw-in filter. That is a standard size and companies like Heliopan make them in both linear and circular types. For this application you do not need a circular polarizer (we are not referring to the shape of the filter by circular).

The filter size of 34mm is for the 150mm 5.6 Xenar.

Got a ruler?
34mm= 1 5/16"
40.5mm= 1 9/16"
At least having the size in inches to compare you can tell which size to look for, after all that's 1/4" not an eyelash.
The figures aren't exact but 1/4" isn't etc.

The filter size of 34mm is for the 150mm 5.6 Xenar.

Not according to the Heliopan and B+W filter guides.

Just a suggestion but if you think you will get other lenses, buy a larger filter and buy a step-up ring for your Xenar. No need to have more than one filter.

Not according to the Heliopan and B+W filter guides.

According to Schneider's (http://www.schneideroptics.com/info/vintage_lens_data/large_format_lenses/xenar/data/5,6-150mm.html) lens info, the 150mm 5.6 Xenar has a 34mm filter size.

Also Kerry Thalman's info agrees with the Schneider site.

Mine disagrees. So does the B+W book and the Heliopan book. They both agree with each other. And he asked about the 150mm 4.5 not the 150mm 5.6.

Thanks Bob. Wouldn't be surprised if your info correct.
