I recently aquired an old 8x10 camera with a #4 acme synchro shutter with shutter stops at 1 2 5 10 25 50 100 150 The shtter does not click into place if you like, so is there such a thing as a variable shutter? If I place it between say 25 and 30, can I get a shutter speed close to 30? Probably a dumb question. Thanks

hi coops
if the shutter slides from one speed to the next
like a betax shutter then there are speeds inbetweeen
the speeds printed on the dial ( there are even dots on the betax
for inbetween speeds ) if there are indents then there are not ...

hope that helps

The Acme Synchro does not evenly or predictably change shutter speeds between the settings. The plate into which the cam is cut is smooth in spots but stepped in other spots. Just use the speeds that are marked. Of course, those might not be that accurate in any case.
