Hi,

I've just started film photography. After seeing the initial contacts, I was horrified when I saw white specs all over the negatives. Is this a common problem? How can one prevent this?

There can be residue in your water and chemicals or dust particles in the air that can cause dust marks. You can use distilled water for mixing your chemicals. Filtering the chemicals with a coffee filter can remove them as well. Use photoflo as a final rinse. Dry the film in a dust free room as possible. This will remove the majority of the dust specks.

Ashok, sounds like you used hard tap water in your process.
