Does anyone know the value of this Voigtlander & Sohn bearing the serial number 1585.
The lens is 4,5 inches width and the lenght is about 11 inches.
Thanks .

Value in terms of use? A nice Petzval without stops.
Value in terms of money? I don't even want to think about it - this is a league where I am neither a passive or active participant!

The early serial number will bring big $$, but the missing flange hurts the value. I dont believe the pull on the cap is original either. Based on another lens with serial number 23xx (with flange) selling for $ 2700 in April, I'd "guess" this lenses value is between $ 1,900 and $ 3,000.

The cap looks very odd. Is there a difference in the lacquer shades? I thought all early caps were external push-on? The way of making it out of turning brass on a lathe means that a central hole for mounting a finial is logical for the maker. Getting the brass handle (which looks like something out of the kitchen) to sit in correct position is not easy.

By the way, I'm turning an old brass flower pot into a lens hood for a lens with external diameter over 10cm.

If it is, its the first of its kind I've seen. Most early caps had a wooden knob pull, if any. Here you will find Voigtlander Petzval # 4033 with a plain brass cap - no pull... http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/2453185

This recent sale of a similar lens might help a bit, although it is obviously a later model:

CC - 4033 does basically look like tonkhang's cap - with an interior fit. Perhaps the handle was an addition after several broken nails?
