Hi: I am new to the forum since I am normally on the f295 Pinhole forum. I just purchased a very nice Calumet circa 1964 view camera and am now in the process of acquiring my first lens. Camera is in great shape along with the bellows and rotating back. Can anyone tell me where I can obtain 4X4" lens boards for this camera? I need about 4. 3 for normal lenses and 1 for a pinhole pancake. Would prefer aluminum, or metal but wood would be OK. Any assistance would be appreciated.
Regards
Mike

www.keh.com

Lists nine previously owned Calumet 4x4 lens boards, both flat and recessed.

Look under Large Format--Lens Boards.

Mike,

Did you check directly with Calumet?

The sales people there might not know, so ask for the Tech Dept.

These have a small pilot hole:

I don't know if I've seen completely undrilled boards of that type. You might just have some made. Simple sheet aluminum (or plywood) of the correct thickness will work I think - it won't have the little ridge on the back side but if it fits tight and painted black it should be light tight. The boards are about 1/8" thick.

I checked with Calumet and they tell me they have none of these and it will be 2 to 4 weeks :-) With Calumet, this can mean never. Thanks for the tip though and I appreciate the replies. I think I need to find a builder or build my own.

It's not terribly hard to build them, I use .090 aluminium cut to 3.95 square.

Thanks Erie. I will try to find some in the area. Do you use a table saw to cut these? If so, what kind of blade do you use?

Only if you want to risk losing limbs or fingers.

I use either a step shear, or have the local waterjet guy cut a bunch up at a time for me.

Do NOT use a table saw to cut aluminum plate!

If you wait the required thirty days, you can find a lot of really good stuff for sale on this forum.

Thanks for the tip Jon. I am having some landscape work done so I don't mind waiting.

Give the teach at your local High School wood shop a box of Krispy Cremes and some wood, and say" please?" :)
