Yes, Voigtländer - the original Voigtländer shop was located in Vienna, they moved to Brunswick (Braunschweig) later.

If you don't know the story about J. Petzval's invention it is well worth the read. One version of it here; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petzval, although I prefer the story in Kingslake's History of the Photographic Lens.

Thanks for the reference, Jason. I've actually been reading Russell Young's PhD thesis (!) on Soft Focus lenses and Pictorialism (you can get it online) and I found the whole Petzval and then especially the P&S story fascinating...

The spat between Voightländer and Petzval and their respective characters, are nicely illustrated in their letters to the English "Photographic Notes" - edited by Sutton. The whole thing is uncannnily like forum flame wars.
