Very nice. I like the first one the best. Kind of has a Sudek air about it.

Yep, it's somehow related to carrots and the "Carrot Master". I figured I'd do some "snapshot" documentary work while Mark was composing. Halfplate collodion.

Any comparison to Sudek is a high compliment, though I'm sure he'd be whirling dervishly in his grave if he heard of it... :)

Carrots are never mastered. I've tried... :(

Mark, Mark, Mark...what are you doing?!

My dirty mind has already made a caption for the first one...

"Always make sure it is wet before inserting carrot"

eewww!!! :eek:

Kinda reminds me of the old Woody Allen line: "Sex is filthy and disgusting. And if it isn't, you're not doing it right..."

Interesting work. Inspires me to take another shot at some produce, something I never really grow tired of. I suspect this particular thread may be limited in the number of people who share though :)

I can't help noticing that your carrots always have wilted greens. Is this from the length of your exposures, the blinding power of your lighting, or a sad reflection on the decline of home grown produce in modern societies?

Usually it's the length of the exposures, often an hour or two stopped well-down or in subdued light on film, or on wet plates, it's sitting through the ordeal of composing, then pouring the plate before exposure. Carrot greens wilt quickly, and as Garrett pointed out, especially so in Tucson. I don't mind, it seems to fit...

When Want and cold Neglect had chill'd thy soul,
Athirst for Death I see thee drench the bowl!
Thy corpse of many a livid hue
On the bare ground I view,
Whilst various passions all my mind engage;

Oh the humanity!

I keep wondering what the food's like in the secure hospitals in the colonies. Does the diet only consist of carrots and kohlrabi? I could always send some parsnips to vary the diet. :-))
