Ok, so I am sorta confused. I have used 4X5 for a few years now and have greatly enjoyed it and recently moved up to 8X10.
So, in my quest to spend all my retirement $$ on photo equipment I have noticed lots of lenses without shutters and see many wonderful images with such pieces.
I guess my big question is how do you do your timing with these?
I keep seeing really nice lenses for sale but am concerned how to use them?
Thanks for your great smarts!

Hi Doug. Welcome. Here's (http://tonopahpictures.0catch.com/Article_About_Packard_Shutters.html) a little piece about at least one way to solve the problem. And here's (http://www.apug.org/forums/forum44/22200-jim-galli-shutter-barrel-lenses-drum-roll-please.html?highlight=Galli+Shutter) another possibility. Slower film helps of course. And forgiving developers like PyroCat-HD.
In the smaller sizes I have Speed Graphic cameras, both 4X5 and 5X7 that allow up to 1/1000th with the curtain focal plane shutter.

Sinar Copal shutters can be used with barrel lenses as well as Sinar DB-mounted lenses.
More expensive than the Packard & a lot more than a pair of 'slides or a hat though.

Besides the Copal-Sinar, there exist other big shutters allowing to re-mount a shutter-less lens in front of the shutter. For example the (discontinued) Compur 5FS (here in action with a 750 mm Apo-Germinar in barrel)
