Sorry if this has been covered previously, but I didn't find anything in the archives.

This is a great story:

John Maloof bought a huge lot of negatives and exposed but undeveloped film at an auction by an unknown street photographer in Chicago named Vivian Maier. He realized he had something great, but just before he tried to contact her she died. He's now working on a book about her and her work.

I love her photos. It's amazing that she left so many rolls undeveloped, but I think I get it: if your doing it for yourself, then the image in your mind is often more powerful than anything that what you'll get in actuality.

...or maybe it's just that it came down to money, developing or film - so you buy the film and keep shooting, with plans to get around to developing them when you have the money.

She, and the people who are promoting her, were the subject of a thread a few months ago.
