Will a Voigtlander Heliar 150/4.5 apparently requiring a 45mm aperture fit into one of the Copal (technika type) lens boards?

Whats the IC on this?

Heres the lens in question... http://www.largeformatphotography.info/forum/showthread.php?p=572007#post572007

cheers

The Heliar 150mm was mounted in a Compur MXCRI shutter. For shutters size #1 the lensboard needs a 41,6mm hole.

My 150 Heliar fits in a 40mm opening... Good luck with the new lens. Bill

The mounting flage's thread is M 39 x 0,75mm but the light trap of the nut needs a hole of 41,6mm. With a 40mm hole the shutter isn't mounted light-tight and misaligned too.

Peter, You're right I didn't notice the light trap, thanks... I can't find the IC but Camera Eccentric has a booklet that says it covers 3.5x5.5... which implies 5.5" IC. My lens definitely covers 4x5 .

The Heliar 150mm has an angle of view of 53°. This is equal to an image circle of 149.5mm at infinity. That's good for 9x12cm with the image circle of 140mm, but 4x5" needs an image circle of 152mm. But if your lens covers 4x5", why worry? I've only used a 180mm with 4x5".

I have an almost identical lens, mounted on Technika board by SK Grimes. You can probably contact them to find out.

Thanks to all for the help.

Ken, does your Heliar cover 5x4 wide open?

Here is a test image I made on 4x5 film, outdoors, a few years ago - but the focus is not at infinity. I was interested in center sharpness, and how smoothly the lens renders the blurry distance.

The lens covers 5x7 wide open at infinity, but I don't know how much of the image circle is fully usable at that setting.

If no one else answers, I'll set up and check outdoors at true infinity, after work today.

I had a look through the ground glass, with the lens focused to infinity.

There's plenty of usable coverage with the lens wide open on 4x5. On 5x7, it gets a little soft at the corners. Things improve a bit as you stop down the lens.

If you plan to make contact prints, you can probably use the lens on 5x7 - but if you plan to enlarge a lot, then focus closer than infinity and/or stop down the lens adequately.

In the end I pulled out of the deal on the Heliar, the seller was very cool about the whole thing...I might live to regret it! But thanks for your efforts Ken. Cheers

I am tempted to sell mine, since I haven't been using it much. It's already mounted on a Technika Board by SK Grimes.

I purchased it from Christopher Perez, who had it CLA'd before selling it.

If anyone's interested, let me know.

Sold?

Sorry, the 150mm Heliar lens is sold.

However... I have a beautiful 135mm Carl Zeiss Jena Tessar, very similar to the Heliar. It is very clean, in an excellent shutter. Mounted on Technika board, and custom-made lens-caps by SK Grimes.

I can post photos if you like, or you can contact me via email or PM.

I already have 3 135mm, plus a 130!...
