I'm in the process of buying a vintage case for my 8x10 Sinar Norma, but since I find many 4x5 cases and just a couple of 8x10's... Do you Sinar geeks know if Sinar made just one olive green case for Normas or one for every format? Also, can the 8x10 one contain big accessories like the 5x7 rear standard plus 4x5 reducing back?
Thank you for any information

Sinar indeed did offer a case for each size camera in their Norma series. The cases for the 4 X 5 and the 5 X 7 were similar. The 5 X 7 case could be used for the 4 X 5 (but not vice versa). These two cases held the camera "intact"; it goes in upside down, with the monorail suspended at each end. The 8 X 10 case is more like a suitcase. From illustrations I've seen it looks like here the bellows is detached from the front standard and the standards then rotated to 90 degrees with respect to the monorail so the camera is put in the case in a flattened out configuration. The brochure I have mentions the 8 X 10 case has room for the 4 X 5 format changing adapter (i.e. the 4 X 5 rear standard and international back) but apparently not the 5 X 7 rear standard. Separate cases were also available for the 8 X 10 and the 5 X 7 format changing adapters. I have a hunch these format changing adaptor cases would be even harder to find today than the camera cases.

I have the 8x10 Norma suitcase. I still haven't worked out how to fit the equipment in properly so I'll try out your idea! It has rings for the rucksak attachment - which, of course, is missing.

Dear Mr. Gazzoni,

It was one case for both formats, in which you could pack either a 4x5 or a 8x10 Sinar Norma.

With best regards

Hmmmmm. Sinar here seems to me to be saying there was one size case for both 4 X 5 and 8 X10 Normas. My information about three size cases comes from some mid 1960's Sinar literature I have.

One of these days I've got to hook up and figure out my scanner so I can show stuff like this.

it would be very helpful David.
their answer seems a bit simplistic.

When Sinar say:
It was one case for both formats, in which you could pack either a 4x5 or a 8x10 Sinar Norma.
They could mean:
Each format had a single case. These single cases could contain either a single 4x5 or 8x10, respectively.

I am sure there were different sizes:

And the size of the 8x10 case is:

55x37.5x23cm

which seems a bit overkill for the 4x5!

Well, I own a big case that my 8x10 came in, and I've seen pictures of one that's smaller. As Fred Picker used to say: "different is not the same."

Mine fits everything I have, which includes a separate rear standard with a 4x5 reducing back, two bag bellows, extra rails, mid-standard, lens boards (later with lenses attached), etc. Oh, and five film holders that came with the outfit.

I haven't used it in seven years - I usually only take what I need, and that takes up far less space than the suitcase, and in multiple cooler bags is more easily stored in the car.

I just bought a 4x5 Norma that's coming w/o a case-- what's a good substitute for carrying it assembled, of the readily available/cheap/Home Despot variety?

The Norma 5x7 case is very different from the Norma 8x10 case. I couldn't talk about the Norma 4x5 case.

Hello, everyone.
My sinar norma 8X10 case is a big one.
It is 62X50X28 cm, but i can find way to fit the normal bellow in it.
It seems no space between the 5X7 back and the 8X10 back.
Does anyone can give me advice?
