TX-320P good candidate for Pyro-HD

Is TX-320P in 4x5, a good film for development in Pyro-HD (rotary processing). Does it take a good stain?

I've processed my 4x5 TXP320 in PMK developer, in trays, ever since I first read about it in 1992. Yes, the film stains quite nicely. I'm sure Pyrocat-HD is worth a try; there's a great deal of information about the pyro developers on this site, so enjoy your search.

Is there a film that isn't good in Pyrocat? I haven't found one....

On page 4 (http://unblinkingeye.com/Articles/PCat/PCat4/pcat4.html) of An Introduction to Pyro Staining Developers, With Special Attention to the Pyrocat-HD Formula (http://unblinkingeye.com/Articles/PCat/pcat.html), there is a graph which shows how TXP responds to changes in development time with Pyrocat HD.

As you can see, it's not dramatically different from the others in this regard. It's not the best, but not the worst either. In other words, one can use development time to control contrast with the film/developer combination. Some of the films shown, are outstandingly linear in this regard, and one is a real... dud :)

As I recall, the film itself has a little more base fog than others, and requires more attention with long exposures (reciprocity compensation) - but it's certainly a very workable combination.

As Richard says ou'd be hard pushed to find any film that doesn't respond well to Pyrocat HD.

I'm wasn't a fan of HP5 but it's wonderful in Pyrocat, Tri-X should be similar.

It seems Tmax-100 is not so good in Pyro. When I tried it didn't nearly take the stain as other films. This wasn't pyro-HD.

Pyro HD in Glycol doesn't turn all the pretty colors when mixing it up like the other pyros.

Don't be deceived Tmax films stain OK it's just that the actual colour of the stain differs between different film types.

Hi Ian,

I will have to revisit Tmax. I like Tmax 400 in 8x10. I can make Van Dyke prints with it as well as scan the neg. I will try it in pyro-HD but may go back to my favorite developer, TFX-2.
