Hi, I'd like to get a good quality metal field camera like the Horseman FA, and would like a the best possible lens small enough to fold with the camera for por tability. Ideally this would be the Rodenstock 150/5.6 APO Sironar S, which is h ighly recommended. If not, what top lens in the 90mm to 150mm range would work? Thanks!

Don't get all hung up on 135 or 150 or 180 lenses. If you want to fold the camera get lense that folds up . I have Crown Grafic with the Schneider 135 and it folds and is very sharp. I know it is wider than the 150 but reall not much, Of course I get no movements but then thats the trade off. I do also fit larger lenses tha do not fold but the 135 is aways on so I can get set up fast and get the shot, That's why I use a range finder 4x5 and have focus stops .Thsi si the same lense the Linhoffs use on their folding cameras, SO too is their 90 whick will fold up too. So get it and shoot the heck out of it.

Matt:

FWIW, I have the 150 APO Sironar-S that folds up with my Wista SP. I can fit a lens with a front filter diameter of 52mm on a lensboard that has the hole drilled in the center (Wista pre-drilled boards have an offset hole). Hope this helps.

A Linhof Tech will definitely fold with a 150 Apo Sironar S inside. I have kept this lens in my folded Tech (both Super V and Master) for years.

I have a Horseman VHR which I think has the same rail/bed configuration as the FA. I believe that the Horseman is limited to lenses 40.5 mm or smaller.
