Single Sheet Readyload Holder

It's my understanding that the new single sheet Readyloads will work in the old Readyload holders (or at least the later version of the old holder). If this is correct, and if you own an old Readyload holder (later version), is there any re ason to buy the new single sheet holder? Does it have any advantages compared to the old holders? Except for one disaster that I now know how to prevent, I alwa ys have had good luck with my old holder and I hate to spend $110 for the new ho lder unless there's a good reason to do so.

I've talked extensively with Kodak techs about this very issue and their feeling is that you do not have to get the new holder. The single sheet film will work just fine as long as it is the latest version with the black pressure plate. Save your money, but do check out this site as he has a review on the various envelope holders ( Fuji, Polaroid and Kodak. www.butzi.net/default.htm .

One significant difference is that the new single sheet holder has a pressure plate shaped to account for packet thickness at the insertion end. None of the double sheet versions, even those with black pressure plates, address this consideration, so they push one end of the film around 0.015" away from the lens. Consequently, if the nature of your work requires accurate emulsion location everywhere on a sheet of film, you may find the new holder provides better results.

I have both holders and I agree with Jeffery. The new holder will more accurately align the film plane with the bottom side of the ground glass. This will provide you with sharper image. Whether that is worth $110 is up to you.
