I have used the 120-film last summer and enjoyed it very much, I remember silently "cursing" Kodak for not producing it in sheet film. So, YES. I will try it.

I used it in 135 and it instantly became my favorite color film. I rarely do color work in 4X5 or 8X10 but that may change with a great color negative film.

Absolutely!!!

I'm using it now with my 6x12 back and love it!

I'm looking forward to trying it in 4x5 and maybe 8x10.

A couple of questions:
Does anyone know what the prices will be?
Does anyone know a good lab for 8x10 C41 processing?

Cheers,
Mark

Lightwaves is doing both my E-6 and C-41 8X10's. Not super fast, but quality has
been fine.

It would be a shame if everyone didn't try it. New films are few and far between these days. I've had mixed results with it in MF but I will certainly buy some in 4x5 as soon as it's available. Bob G.

I agree! I will try some 4x5 as well, I have a few rolls of it in 35mm but I have not used it yet. Waiting for the sun to come back out...

Kodak's Scott DeSabato said in recent interview it will be priced below Portra. You can probably get an idea of the relationship by looking at Ektar 35/120 vs. Portra 35/120 (the Ektar significantly cheaper).

I do look forward to a new film becoming available, though I'm not sure how to interpret "mixed results"... whether its user or manufacturer error.
If it was inconsistent, I wouldn't bother.
I've not tried it yet, but look forward to it. I've only shot Portra in 120, but just got a couple of boxes for the 5x7. If Ektar is going to cost less, but still provide good results, I could cut a box of 8x10 to fit the 5x7. I need to get a roll of 120/220 first to test it. Free time has been at a minimum lately, hence the Portra that's still in the TLR.

I will be ordering some. It is great in 35mm and 120. I can get almost grainless 11x14 prints from 35mm Ektar. I am looking forward to seeing how a 20x24 shot looks on Ektar from 4x5. Now the problem will be finding a suitable subject that needs this.

Does anyone know how Ektar 100 has worked out in 120 with cheap home processing methods? Could I get away with a fish-tank-heatered water bath and combiplan tank for it in 4x5?
Normally I've sent off my E6 and C41, but I've never mailed out sheet film for processing and ouch that looks spendy!

Should be fine. I've been C41 processing almost from it's introduction, although less so of late.

It's great news, I'd hoped the day would come that Ektar would become available in 4x5 but suspected it never would. Looking forward to giving it a go, it might even tempt me to save up for a 10x8!

I've been shooting Ektar in 135 and 120 format with excellent results and will definitely purchase the 4x5 format - especially since I've read elsewhere on this forum that Fuji Pro 160C will be discontinued. Wonder if they are going to make it available in 50 sheet boxes? 10 Sheet packaging is fine with me but the 50 sheet box comes in handy when traveling.

"Way to Go Kodak!"

Can anyone tell me what Ektar is all about. This is the first I have learned about it.

Thanks...

I've been a bit disappointed with my initial results using the 135 film (cyan cast in the shadows, sometimes marring the entire image) but I'll certainly try it when it becomes available in 8x10.
Phoenix Imaging (formerly Precision) in Chicago and Praus Productions in Rochester NY can both process and print C-41 ( as well as any other film type) in any format, and do it well.

I just wish it was easier to obtain the chemicals for C-41 home processing. Liquid bleach can't be sent in the mail without big hazmat fees. A lot of people are resorting to EBay (where it's sent illegally without hazmat fees usually) to get the Bleach. It's actually easier to get E-6 chemicals for home use than C-41.

I've shot it in 35mm since it was first available. I like it for some subjects and will keep some on hand. But I'll probably always use more 160VC.

I usually shot Fuji Velvia or Provia, but I would like to give the new 4X5 Ektar a try, as C-41 films have more latitude.

Oohhh... did you get it from a Kodak rep or is it actually for sale somewhere?

I will try it in 4x5 and possibly also in 8x10 but if prices are like Adorama's who already have it listed i may limit myself to 4x5
It was my impression from the interview with Kodak's Scott DeSabatto that the price would be below Portras?
Will wait and see what Badger Graphics can do, they are usually best priced.

I'm really shooting 4x5 for doing B&W. I purchased a box of 10 sheets of Portra 160NC last summer, and have so far shot two sheets. Having said that, I'll be buying a box of Ektar 100 as soon as I can. I'm already shooting Ektar 100 in 35mm and 120 (I bought my Hasselblad specifically to shoot Ektar 100), and can think of a few things I'd like to use it for in large format. Besides I want to start shooting more LF.

My only fear is that it will help encourage me to get an 8x10 camera (I already want one for B&W).

Now - couldn't the Fuji pick up this glove and and bring us Provia 400X in 4x5 and 8x10 !?!

I've been using a fair bit in 35mm, and loving it. This just may be my 4x5 film choice for landscapes.

Anybody know when the LF Ektar 100 is supposed to be available? Sometime in March I thought but March is here and I'm wondering. Bob G.

It's April that it'll be released, not March.

I would much prefer if Kodak made their Plus-X available in sheet film. Or that someone brought back Polaroid Type 55.

Mark, et. al

I can't recommend Dodge/Chrome (in DC) highly enough. They run E-6 and C-41 (and B&W too) 35mm to 8x10 (and IF you shoot 11x14 they WILL run that too), their machines are CLEAN, their customer service is outstanding and you can ship film to them and they'll turn it around in 36 hours (C-41) and send you negs/proofs back via FedEx, etc. E-6 goes out same day it comes in. www.dodgechrome.com / 202.333.3270.

I'm looking forward to trying it in 4x5 and maybe 8x10.

The release of Ektar 100 4x5 is actually bringing me back to shooting color in large format again for the first time in 20 years.

Subjects for this film will be limited, based on my 120 usage of this film, but I am excited that Kodak is releasing this.
