Well *B*y is good for something! I managed to find caps for all 4 brass lenses that I bought recently, including this cute little one for my pillbox lens :) (have we determined that this E. Anthony mark is a Darlot? Anthony didn't actually produce their own , did they?) I really wish I could pin its D.O.B. down better than between 1850 and 1895!!

Yuck, ugly plastic...:(

But it's just to keep dust out; I hope to find a brass one with velvet lining soon... :)

I like the smiley face!

Anyway, as long as it works.

I use plastic bottle caps on some of mine...

I use all manner of things to keep the dust out too.

As far as age, it can be no earlier than 1869, as discussed here (http://www.largeformatphotography.info/forum/showpost.php?p=553429&postcount=9). Anthony always offered other maker's lenses, but in 1869 they arranged to start buying Darlots (normally imported by BF French) and to start using this new mark.

Kaiser makes a 28mm push-on lens cap.

I bought an identical one on the 'Bay - looks the same, also 28mm - to fit my Kodak Signet 35. So it's also a cap for 58-year-old lenses. The fit is just an eensy bit on the tight side, though, so my Signet isn't smiling quite so enthusiastically as your brassie.

Um...that's exactly what that is, Bob! :)

I make mine from leather. Thick for the end piece and thin for the wrap - glue the wrap around the round end.

Richard:

Talk to Ray Morganweck at Star Camera. He has made several "period correct" lined lens caps for me (as well as others). BTW, they are an attractive dark green.
