I'm currently using the alternative Fishpond reel case for carrying gear. Its internal dimensions are 13.5"x10"x4.5" deep and it is a bit tight for what I need. The Orvis case is supposed to be 14"x10"x6" deep. Can anyone confirm this for me please by measuring one?

Anyone know of an alternative that might be bigger than the 14" and/or the 10" dimension that doesn't weigh a ton?

Thanks in anticipation,

Regards
Dave

If you need to put something 14x10x6 in the Orvis case, it won't fit. For one thing, the corners are round. The dimensions seem to be measured from the zippers, i.e., the padded lining makes the 14" side about 13". The bottom of the case is about 5 1/4" deep, while the top is about 3/4" deep. At the same time, the entire thing is soft and deformable, so that you could fit something 15" or perhaps 16" long, as long as it wasn't too wide. By the same token, you could probably fit something 10" round into it and nearly 14" long, as long as it wasn't anywhere near 10" wide.

Excellent for carrying lots of things, e.g., lenses, even if mounted on lensboards. Lots of reconfigurable velcro dividers.

Hope that helps.

Dave,

I measured the interior of my Orvis reel and gear case--without taking the dividers and medium format gear out of it. I got 13.5 inches in length, 10 inches in width, and 6 inches in depth.

Many thanks Charley and Keith. I think the 6 inches in depth will be good. I was hoping to use it with my Canham 5x7 wood and put the Canham 617 RFH in as well but both bags are too small for that. The extra depth though will better suit the RFH and I can get my darkcloth in as well as lenses, filters, meter etc. The camera on the other hand may have to stay in its Canham bag which will work fine.

All of this by the way goes into my MEI backpack.

Thanks guys.
