I have been chasing down an electrical short in my Beseler 45M and the last thing to do is rewire the lamp cap assembly. For anyone who is not familiar with the enlarger, in the lamp cap bolts directly to the ceramic lamp socket. There was a disk used to insulate the exposed wiring between the socket and the cap. To get to the wiring, I ruined the disk since it was stuck on the socket with something. It looked like the disk was made of asbestos; at least I presume it was some fire resistant material since it would get pretty hot in there (150 watt bulb). Any ideas on a material I could use to replace it with? I was thinking silicone (500 degree variety). Thanks.

Could you post a picture.

Sometimes fiberglass cloth can substitute for Asbestos.
