Awesome, Shailendra. I think the clouds add nice texture to the sky. In a sense there is nothing realistic about the image in any regard, as far as what a person sees, so I find a moon trail in a cloudy sky to just be some fantastical phenomenon that fits with the rest of the image.

I actually placed the camera on the hotel windows ledge. Initial exposure was at night with the full moon out at f45 for around 3 hours, then covered the lens with the lens cap, and re exposed the image at sunrise for about 10 sec. As mentioned, I was hoping for a cloudless sunrise as to get moon against a clear background, but alas it was Seattle.

Not a criticism, just wondering, as I keep staring at it.

I have never used a 72 mm XL.

Hi Randy, yep it is lens curvature. I should have positioned the camera movements better to minimize it. It is a great lens btw.

Thank you Graham and Randy, much appreciated.

Randy, I used Ektachrome 64 EPR, although I did tone the slide slightly for more of a blue tone which makes it look like EPT - but it was very slight. Other than that, I used no filters just one exposure for about 1 second in the daytime, then another at night. I probably should have exposed the night one for longer as the dark areas are a bit more underexposed than I prefer.

First, thanks to James az for showing me how to do it and providing the supplies.

This is a night time photo on Tmax 100. Estimated exposure at f/11 was 15 minutes. The actual exposure was 30 minutes due to recciprocity. 210 G Clarion lens, Chamonix 45H-1. Photographed on light table with iphone and adjusted in LR mobile.

I am ready to go all in on developing and printing my own film!

Really nice! Was it difficult to stitch together?

Thanks all for the comments on this one.

It's not difficult at all really digitally, at least not with this setup. For this one I shot with a Fujinon 300mm A Lens, very little alignment correction or distortion because of the long focal length.

Slide film also makes it easier because the colors seem more consistent from various sheets of film and there's no orange mask to deal with. I shoot slides on bright days like this for more contrast.

One of the hardest stitches I've done is the one below, also in Wyoming.

For one, the film were a bit underexposed color negatives and I was using a wider lens (110XL w/ center filter) which gives light falloff when reaching the extremes of shift when stitching. It required a lot more color correction. I would use a 300mm lens for all scenes if I could.

http://john-sanderson.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Gilette-Panorama_Web-4.jpg

Anyway, stitching with large format is fun!! Especially for these panos.

My really first 4x5 pictures, taken in a rather crude way with a Kodak No.4 Folding Cartridge of 1898-1900 (a camera designed for the huge 104 film format). I put the sheet with strips directly to the focus plane in the dark room... and it works (but it's a slow proces just to take 1 picture).

No, I took a digital picture of the negatives above a light table and then reversed with photoshop. I still don't have a LF scanner and in the lab they could do that but for quite a lot of money. I hope to get a nice Epson scanner when I have the money and place to put it

I wasn't sure if this was better suited to this thread or 'What did you compose at Waters Edge?', but here's one of the whole three negatives I managed to expose when I owned an 8x10 Deardorff for 2 weeks back in 2013. Unfortunately I had an emergency not long after buying it and had to sell it on. If I remember correctly I bought it from one member here and ended up selling it to another.

Hi Mitch

I like too - what did you set out to achieve in this image................? To me, sharpness wasn't overly intended, which if this was the case, I really appreciate and also with the poles merging into the distance on what seems like a low cloud kind of slightly foggy day

Great stuff - reminds me of where I grew up in Western NY on the Pennsy line - Allegany County, NY/Potter County, PA. We had mostly villages & "hamlets" (Albany recognizes hamlets). I drive up there twice a year through Mansfield & Williamsport. Has that Pittsburgh/Belle Vernon feel to it. The area is great - brick buildings during prosperity but nobody can afford to knock 'em down-alfredian

Hi Alan. Thank you for your perceptive comment.

That photo was made on a day that Brett Weston and I were out photographing in 1972. Posted below is one from the same day.

From LensWork #93: "When he was in the area, Brett often invited me along to photograph, especially when he had something special in mind. On one occasion he had arranged our entry to a recycle facility full of crushed cars and acres of mangled debris; we spent the better part of the morning in ecstasy!

Merg Ross, I just so your web page, so beautiful photographs! I've asked about the Kodak plus X 125, because, if you look in wikipedia it is written that the film available only in 35 and 120mm, which for me is quite bizarre. And I adore this film and miss it a lot, and can not image the pleasure tp shot it on 4x5 or 5x7...:(

I effort to celebrate January 1st each year with an early morning photo outing. The first morning of 2020 found me southeast of Tonopah, Arizona where steam was emanating from the Palo Verde Nuclear Generation Station. I pre-visioned the final print showing the vapor contrasting against the early morning sky as the rising sun illuminated the structures. With the generous and kind assistance of fine art photographer Randy Efros, who allowed me to trespass in his wonderful darkroom, a nice silver gelatin print was made shortly after. I had not gotten around to scanning the print until now.

Plus-X Pan, then Plus-X Professional ("PXP) were my main films in 35mm when I got into photography, Summer of 1969. The film we were "Supposed to like" was Tri-X (the good one), especially if developed to maximum grain. My first roll in my brand new Minolta SRT-101 was Plus-X, self-developed in D-76. Tried Tri-X, but my first 100' roll was Plus-X. Tough as an indoor film - classroom/school pix indoors, dead of NY Upstate Winters, but PX had a look & feel all its own. I bought the last rolls of 35mm PXP from Cardinal Photo in Philadelphia, right after Kodak had pulled the plug on it. Store owner wasn't aware of that. Bought a roll of PXP in 220 from Penn Camera in Bethesda, MD, just to try it out. Wow. Roll as long as 36 exp 35mm, huge negs. Went back for the rest of the 5-pack and it was gone. Bring back Kodachrome? Sure, but what about Plus-X and yes, Verichrome Pan. My Mom's Brownie took VP in 620 and I still have the negs - amazing film. -- alfredian

Thank you, Christo. I hope the expired Plus-X rolls work well for you. We are fortunate to still have many good films from which to choose, although nothing like the old Plus-X and Pan-X. I use mostly Ilford films now in roll and sheet.

John, was an ND grad used in this photo? Or maybe just vignetting from a lot of rise. In any case, the effect is strange and unsettling. A very good image, I think.

Found on campus a few weeks ago, a spontaneous sculpture by unknown college students. Had a camera with me so grabbed a photo.

Wanderlust 4x5, 90mm Optar, T-Max 100, Pyrocat:

https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nREAtx1Eccg/YGyDQIIkE7I/AAAAAAAANfc/TG3-92DWv-YDYBE5okZgrJlJyDbfKi0hwCLcBGAsYHQ/s800/chairs-6337s.jpg

Much better than some (one assumes) "planned" sculptures I've seen in museums, enigmatic and very nice.

I assume this was on a college campus during a break time. I recall when I was (briefly) involved in a college photography program, the instructor warned us that it was difficult to make good images on-campus. No doubt he was right, from some of the attempts I saw. But this picture reveals the secret of success: Remove the students.

Thanks. no, no filters, no vignetting. That was the light on the scene.

Hi folks. Really loving the images here in this thread. Stunning work. Here are some 4x5 images I took over a 3 year period of a beach in my home town of Port Elizabeth, South Africa. The beach sits next to some ore-dumps and a seasonal play park. Hope you enjoy.

That's a nice one! Just out of curiosity how expired is "very expired"? I ask because I also have some very expired APX100, like 1995 or so, which has been frozen for most of it's life.

Thanks Joe! I remember when I used to hang out with the photo prof at the university I worked at, that he had a list of "bad photos." Stuff like, "empty alcohol bottles" and "parking lots," and I believe something along the lines of "anything on campus." I don't know why the students did this little chair sculpture but I'm glad I happened by :).

Just about 2 blocks down the street is an enigmatic little coffee shop / antique showroom (not much for sale, more of a "look at my collection" kinda place). Today, after some snow this weekend, I took my Kodak 5x7 and 8 3/4 Verito out to shoot, and got this:
