Hi folks,

I will participate in a photographic book project next year for an NGO, and they have asked me to find a project manager or consultant to help shepherd the project to book publication once it has been photographed, written, and laid out. They want it to look pretty nice because they plan to use it as a fundraising tool, so blurb and such are out. So, that means knowing what printers to work with, papers to choose, proofing, binding, and all that other juicy stuff that can make or break a book.

My question is, do you know of anyone with considerable experience in this field who would work, if not as a project manager, then in a smaller role as a consultant to help steer this into port?

It doesn't have to be someone you have worked with directly, but at least someone whom somebody you know has worked with, or whose results you have seen and appreciated.

Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!

Claudio

Claudio,
I would recommend that you talk with someone who has had "print on demand" experience as well as traditional press work. This may be especially helpful to an NGO which is not in a position to pay all of the upfront costs of layout, printing in China or India and keeping a large inventory on the hopes they will sell. The print on demand changes the paper choices and binding options slightly but not in a way that will be of concern to the buyers. The NGO even may be able to use this as part of their marketing angle. Of course, if they are doing this with prepaid orders it won't matter as much although there are still financial issues that favor cash retention and low inventory. Anyway, best of luck with the project.

HI everyone,

I think I may be set at this point, but if the person I recommended for some reason does not work out, I will talk to you, bvstaples and Kirk.

I appreciate the advice very much. Thanks!
