Thank you all for the positive comments. This spot was very accessible for photography in 80's and 90's. It was along a highway in northern NM. Then a fence went up with an gate just for foot traffic. Next a fence with a sign saying "don't even think about trespassing. I presume that vandalism became the issue.

Nice image, better than anything I have done there. This is the partial reconstruction of Santa Rosa de Lima church just below Abiquiu. It was built in the 1980's on the historic site (a mound of dirt) of Santa Rosa de Lima and never finished by santero Charlie Carrillo, a penitente and PHD in Abiquiu. It quickly started to look like an old ruin. I know Charlie and talked to him a few times about this project

I used to work and have relatives north of there and went by there all the time, but those reasons are gone now. So I haven't been by there in awhile and didn't notice it was fenced the last time by. I can't help you with that. Just guessing, but probably whoever owns the property fenced it for safety reasons? Fences are oftentimes about lawyers.

Thanks for the compliment, Michael. I gave selunium toning a try a while back, but could not get a color tone that I was happy with. This image has only been printed on Ilford Multigrade FB, and I have been content with the results - though there is always room for improvement with my printing.
The scan for my post was straight from the negative, with minimal adjustments for contrast and brightness.

Marko, you did well. I like the aspect ratio and crop, and you got a lot of my favorite element, the massive succulents that grow there.
Thanks Jeffrey,
That is a wonderful place, thank you for showing it to me! Here's another one, different take and different crop, although I am not too happy how it turned out. Still getting used to my new v700:

I seem to photograph windows quite often ...
Here's two, the first is a particular favourite. It's in my local church. One day I realised that if I visited just after sunrise on a day in September then the stained glass window out of sight on the left would be illuminated by the sun and its shadow would be cast on the bare wall opposite. And, hey presto ... The other stained glass window is pretty impressive too.
http://www.virtuallygrey.co.uk/files/9311/1578chantrychapelstainedglasslight2.jpg
And this second one is a variation on the Window theme taken in a disused church in Ireland. I was with friends at this site where we competed for the best tripod holes for this one.
http://www.virtuallygrey.co.uk/files/9311/1206burrisholewindow1.jpg
I think I may have posted these in the past in other threads.
Steve Gledhill
14-Jul-2010, 13:06
And here are a couple more:
The first I wish I had been able to light the candles. I even returned (with matches) on two separate occasions but the church was locked each time.
http://www.virtuallygrey.co.uk/files/9311/1572windowcandles.jpg
And the light falling through this window was magical.
http://www.virtuallygrey.co.uk/files/9311/2147stanwaychurchleadedwindow.jpg
Like the previous two I may have posted these before. Apologies if that's not ok.

Great little pseudo abstract. It takes a second to figure out what you are looking at. Nice lines, shapes and tones. Very good eye to spot this and compose it well.

Focus on far, focus on near and put the focus point halfway between and stop down. It was with a 210mm lens, the negative could actually be a tad sharper. Indeed they are reflections. I was pretty struck with them too.

Thanks! It wasn't exactly how I visualized it so I think I'll go back and try again (I was hoping for a better balance of ambient and indoor light.) I had wanted to take this photo for a long time and finally made it down to the school last week. Do other people have these: shots that you see when you don't have a camera with you and think, "I should take that picture," but it takes months or years to get out the camera and make the trek?

I like your shot you finally did. And boy do I share your experience! Basically, I see an interesting image every other day and never get back to take it. It may take months or years to shoot something that's lingering in my brain. Bad thing that I don't carry my view camera in my pocket like my cell phone. Or maybe not.:) There may be an asset in pondering upon an image for a long time....

Thankyou.
This image the bothered me for a long time before I finally bought the clamp needed to get the camera high enough to remove all the air-con's etc that were higher up. The fact the sink is not parallel to the frame annoys me greatly. It's not a particularly beautiful image; it's personal; it is the rawest image that symbolises my need/desire/compulsion to photograph.

That is a stellar photo!
Here's one of my first b&w photos. I tried messing with the movements on my speed graphic. But missed running out of coverage because the corners of my ground glass are clipped. Now I know to keep the limited coverage of the 127mm in the back of my mind when shooting. But I still like my photo.

Shop in Woodbury, Connecticut. Old 4x5 Ektachrome (late 70's or early 80's). No code number on film edge, so can't say exactly which (one sharp V notch and one wide round cornered notch, so probably Ektachrome 64 Pro). Horseman L; Nikkor 150W. Exposure not recorded, but obviously late afternoon.
Scanned with Epson V750 Pro, glassless film holder. Minimal post processing. Some spotting, and cooled off the late PM light just a bit. And yes, it really was that red.
No special storage for 'chromes. They've been in PrintFile pages, in 3-ring binders, in boxes, downstairs in a cool, dry closet at 8500' in Colorado for the past 25-30 years. Pretty good conditions, I guess.

Having just learned how to upload to Flickr and then post to here, having too much fun!
One's a window, one's a door with a window. We had an early snowy day here in NJ about a week ago, so I tried some balancing of indoor light (or lack of same) and outdoor light.
Both Canham DLC, Ilford HP5+, PMK, scanned Epson 4990, dust elimination and re-sizing in Elements 11:

This is the most fun I've had in a while looking at a picture thread. In my latest project (http://www.paulraphaelson.com/portfolios/sub-culture/) every image is of / though / at / by way of a window. It's all small camera stuff so no pics to post. There's an attached statement that morphs into a musing on windows in photographs.
