I have been reading around on this forum for a while and by now I thought it was time to introduce myself...
First of all I need to thank Kevin Bourque for the great article at the front page on restoring his 8x10 Burke and James! Some time ago I bought a 5x7 Burke and James (my first LF cam), which needed some work. Kevin's article was a great source of inspiration and help!
Besides removing the paint and polishing the metal parts, the bellows were severely damaged and needed replacement. I managed to make some new bellows. Since I had no experience with making bellows, the result is not perfect. It however keeps the light out of the camera and movements are possible.
All in all I'm quite happy with the results! Last weekend I shot my very first large format negatives (on a 4x5 back). I'll probably post them somewhere on the forum.
Oh, and before I forget, I'm from Holland. You know, the tiny little country where everybody walks on wooden shoes and there is a red light district around every corner...That's kind of enough for an introduction I guess.
Cheers!
Gonzo
PS: I made quite some pictures during the process of restoring the B&J. If there's interest for it, I can setup some article or forum post to explain the process or maybe they can be added to Kevin's article...
