Not sure if this has been posted anywhere yet. I just read a posting on the PDN blog regarding copyright issues and posted images on social media sights. It's a good FYI and reminder to us all to think about what kind of images and where we post them and for what purposes. Here is the link:
http://www.pdnpulse.com/2009/11/warning-facebook-and-myspace-strip-photo-copyright-data.html

and a good article from ASMP regarding Best Practice Recommendations for
Social Networking Sites.

These issues are why I cancelled my Flicker account some time ago.

I've always told photographers: copyright and contact need to be on the image, as a watermark

Agreed, watermarking an image is a good idea, but there are sometimes problems in the legal terms of these sites in that when you post you give up rights to the material posted. Make sure you get a lawyer to read the fine print if you don't want to fall asleep while reading those diff site TOSs yourself. When in doubt, keep the images retained & posted on your site.
