I have recently purchased a horseman 6x9 roll film holder and shot some color film.
What size prints best show this format. Do you ask for 12x18 or some other size.

The largest prints I am able to make with my HP B 9180 13" printer, still leaving a 1/2" boarder, are 12"x18".
My 645, 6x9 and 5x7 negatives fit nicely into the 12"x18'' size with a minimum of cropping.

Sounds as though you're thinking of dropping the film off somewhere and ordering double prints for the whole roll? That could prove expensive at 12"x18" ;-)
But 12x18 isn't really large enough to discern the benefit of that sumptuously large negative over 645 or even well-shot 35mm or DSLR. The realm where 6x9 really hits its stride is at 20" x 30".
I can get sleeve-only processing and proof scanning to CD done for a roll of 120 negative film done locally by a pro-catering minilab for about $6/roll. From that I choose what to scan at higher resolution and print.
