I'm going through the specs of the CLS2000 and CLS1840 and see that the more powerful CLS2000 seems to be lighter and smaller by 3 inches in height.

I don't think this is a typo because the CLS2000 is indeed indeed wider because the areas where the control knobs come out the sides are bigger.

CLS1840
1000W
No built in 'auxilliary' Y and M filters
One fan
65x44x71cm
33kg

CLS2000
2000W
Built in 'auxillary' Y and M filters
Two fans
60x55x65cm
18.55kg

I bought a CLS2000, but have not picked it up yet. I can't see how it is lighter, unless the fans are external and not included in the weight.

Anyway if it is indeed 3" shorter, that will let me work with the baseboard 3" higher as I will be a few inches short of getting full head elevation with the CLS2000 fitted on my chassis.

sorry to spoil your day. The CLS2000 must be connected on the top with a ventilation hose to prevent a lot of light coming out. So maybe it is less in height but the hose gets cramped against the ceiling

I'm planning on having the hose go up between the beams which in my case are 2"x10". Perhaps I might get the whole 'black hat' on top to go between the beams, but in that case, I can see a possible issue with the hose.

Do you know if the other end of the hose is just open, or is there an external fan? The pictures in the brochures don't show.

Just a open end. The cls1840 as a labyrinth inside. In the cls2000 there is not enough space

I think the CLS2000, and possibly the CLS1840, changed over the years and model versions. My late model CLS2000 is slightly taller (maybe a half-inch) than my early model CLS1840, and that is without the vent hood. My CLS2000 is packed away now, so I can’t give an exact measurement.

Another indicator of model changes is that my late model CLS2000 never did have any “built in auxiliary Y and M filters”.

The vent hose is open on the other end, to connect to any external vent fan you may have. Using the CLS2000 for personal use, you shouldn’t need an external fan, but you will need to keep the vent hose attached to prevent light leaks (or fabricate some sort of “light trap”). Or you could probably substitute the vented CLS1840 “top hat” vent hood.
