I have two copal 0 lens boards that are not being used and a copal 1 lens I just bought. I wanted to ask if anyone has either done or heard of cutting out a 0 into a 1? I have a good friend with a machine shop who could cut it our perfectly but was not sure if it was a good idea having never done it before. Just wanted to get some opinions out there who might have played with the idea. Thanks.

Sure you can do it - it'll be fine. Cutting your own usually isn't cost effective if you have to pay for it.

No problem. All lens boards start out as a solid piece of metal. There are no special tricks. Some people even file the hole larger-I like your method much better.

I've specifically bought a size smaller and then filed
them to size in order to mount barrel lenses without flanges.

Admittedly, this was for a small lens, but given it was brass and the board was aluminium, it self-tapped nicely!

Thanks for the input. This buddy of mine will do it for free so sounds like that is the way to do it. Thanks again.

Just remember that the centre of original hole in the 0 is not necessarily the center of the board. So make sure your friend cuts the new hole based on where the center of the 0 hole is.
I think linhof boards are cut with the centre low in the board.

If you don't do that the lens won't zero out on any zero detents you have on your camera and you will lose some rise height. Other makes may be centred.
