Mikes Transport thread.

Hi guys,

I am currently working on a transport project at school and I wanted a place to showcase my work so far. I hope this thread is appropriate. I will post up my pictures with my ideas, feel free to throw in some constructive criticism. So here we go....

My main inspirations are Gabrielle Brasillico due to the technical quality of his work and Robert Richfield due to his panel/panoramic work.

This was a test I did to see what was needed to create a panel piece of work.

The graphical impact of the pieces is very strong. I am not clear on how the bottom piece relates to transport directly. I think the idea of transport comes across stronger when you show transport systems (e.g. roads and crosswalks, rails and signaling systems or switches, planes and runways or terminals, etc.) If you choose to shoot this like an architectural photographer you will end up with very static pictures. That works against the meaning of transport. I think it is critical that you show that transport is about complex systems that accommodate movement.

Toyon you are quite right in that transport obviously revolves around movement. It is something I am still working on. At the moment I am trying different ideas out. I should explain that the top images panels are connected by the highway. Much like cities are connected by highways.

This is part of a tram line study I did. Again it is just for research and to see what I can come up with. I did plan to go on the tracks, get low and use them as lead in lines but the trams were running. I know an area that has old train tracks that are not in use so I will be visiting those soon.

They did not come out in the way I expected, there is no contrast in the image and a lack of sky. I did push the film +1 to boost the contrast but it was not enough to rescue an unsuccessful shoot.

Personally I like the colours in the first one. I think the sky really helps add interest to the image too. I got lucky with that one.
