I know for a lot of folks Sally Mann is an either love or hate proposition. Here is a link to a movie that was made about her: What Remains: The Life and work of Sally Mann.
It's a great look at how her work has evolved over time and the ease with which she works with big cameras.

I'd seen it from the DVD (which has also a few interesting extras, including an earlier documentary about Immediate Family), but I am curious Jim, how did you find that Russian page ?
Didn't this movie come out like five years ago?

It was posted in a thread over on APUG.
I do think it has been out for awhile but I had forgotten all about it and never tried to see if it was available through someone like netflix. I need to find out who distributed it and see if it is avaliable for sale.

So, as I am not a big DVD watcher, what would be some other good photographer related DVD's to own? I wouldn't mind grabbing this one from Amazon (thanks Kerik) and heck, Christmas is coming up so maybe Santa would leave me a few others in my stocking if I knew some good ones to ask for.

Hi Eric. I will suggest this as a good DVD to own.

I like to see this kind of documentary work being done about artists so I'll pony up the $20. I also think it will be something I will want to revisit from time to time.

doh.... the day I saw this thread (and watched the movie online) was the same day that I received the DVD of this movie from NetFlix (I had added it to my queue and forgotten about it).
I recently watched a DVD from NetFlix on "Alfred Stieglitz: The Eloquent Eye" (from 2000). I thought it was pretty good.

A couple other interesting movies are: The Impassioned Eye (Henri-Cartier Bresson), The Searching Eye (Yousef Karsh), War Photographer (James Nachtwey), Life through the lens (Annie Leibowitz) and Manufactured Landscapes (Edward Burtynski). The BBC series "genius of photography" (6 episodes) is also really worth watching, it's a great overview of the history of photographer and a lot of the major influences.
