In anyone's educated, experienced, but unofficial opinion, where does the Berthiot Eidoscope stand up against the other classic older portait lenses (such as P&S or Hermagis) for 8 x 10 work?

It is the same thing as the Hermagis Eidoscope (I have owned both), perhaps Berthiot bought the name and design, or perhaps Berthiot bought Hermagis? I have no idea, but regardless a very nice lens.

I must say I know little about them. I think I read in an 1922/1923 issue of Amateur Photographer it was one of their favorite lenses. In 1922/1923 however they didn't review any P&S or Hermagis lenses, they did write about a few other soft focus lenses.

Maybe your subscription ran out before they reviewed the P&S and Hermagis lenses. :)
