View Full Version : NY/NJ LF studio shoot w/model

I'm looking to see if there is interest in an informal workshop at a studio in Hooboken, NJ.
This would include a model or two (nude/costumed) and access to a large studio plus a very interesting urban courtyard type area out the back door of the studio.

The studio is looking for a donation (I'm thinking $20 +/-) to use the building and we'll also need to pay model costs. We have a good pool of models that we use for weekly figure drawing held at the studio.

There are strobes and hot lights available.

I'm thinking the morning could be spent outside and then after lunch we could go into the studio to shoot. If there's enough people we may split up into two groups.

This should be viewed as a pretty casual affair with no real instruction. Just come and have the opportunity to shoot a model or two with your LF camera.

Start thinking of a Saturday in October and reply here.

Alan.

i am in. i would like experienced models that some one we know has worked with so we know what to expect. i think we should keep it "LF speed" oriented. i would feel uncomfortable with a digital spray and pray type person banging away over my shoulder etc etc.

strobes and props would be great. (chair, sofa, etc etc.)

we should try and figure how many models to have based on the group size.

what sucks is i am pretty much committed on every sat EXCEPT the 3rd and 31. so those would be my choices.

i will pass the word around as well.

great idea.

I'll have more details tomorrow but I know the 31st is out. We're having a "Gallery of Terry" art show and Zombie Prom party that night. You're welcome to come to that as well :)

Boy, but I sometimes wish I was closer to NYC. Okay, maybe not that much closer. But this sure looks like it might be a great time.

Here are the details I promised...

Dates studio is available: Oct 10th or Oct 17th (both Saturdays). Vote early and often.

Models:We have space to shoot two models inside and one or two or more outside. Right now we're looking for a minimum of two models with experience. We can get another if there is demand.

Cost: Model fees plus $20 per person to use the studio. We'll try and find a good balance between photographers/models. If someone has experience with what a good ratio is please comment. I talked with the studio and we want to keep costs similar to what Matthew Blais is doing on the west coast ($85).

Props: There are a couple of chairs as well as two sizes of bar stools. One Black futon. Plenty of black fabric to drape and use as backdrops. Posing boxes and a raised stage.

Open to anyone who uses sheet film but you're welcome to bring your backups.

Location: Paul Vincent Gallery 49 Harrison St. Hoboken, NJ
The studio has experience shooting fashion and product plus they hold a weekly figure drawing get together.

My involvement: I've wanted to shoot with a model but didn't want to pay for it all by myself and I know people with studio space. I will not be collecting money but will facilitate as much as I can. Payment info will come as soon as I get it.

Since I've never done this before I am very open to suggestions and comments. Even if you're not going to attend but have been to a group shoot with models I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks,

Alan.

"Gallery of Terry" art show and Zombie Prom party

That should read "Gallery of Terror". Although I'm sure there is a Terry somewhere who wants his own gallery and I wish him luck.

That's funny because the studio I'm renting for my shoot is owned by a guy named Terry and he HAS his own gallery inside... lol

Good luck with this Alan...

How early do people like to start shooting?
How does 10am - 5pm with an hour for lunch sound?

I talked with my studio contact and I have a little more info...

Models: We are looking for models 5'8" and taller who have experience. Currently looking on Model Mayham and when we have the finalists we will provide their ID numbers.
Please bring your own model release forms and if you have a good one please share with the group or at least with me.

We're still looking at Oct 10 or 17. The studio is actually not sure which will work best for them but I'll let you know.

We've been having a hard time finding models on short notice and thought it best to take a little more time. October 17 (Saturday) is the date.

If you can't make this date and if this goes well I'd love to help organize another group model shoot as the interest/need arises.

Allen:

Please answer all of the following questions,

(1) Does this building have a working elevator?
(2) What are the model's hourly rates?
(3) How much time does each photogrpaher get with a chosen model?
(4) Will the models give out copies of their driver's licenses for 18 U.S.C. 2257 compliance.
(5) Do the models understand that they must sign the photogrpahers' releases prior to the start of the shoot.
(6) Are there any models who want an escort during a shoot? In this regard, I will not shoot with any model who requests the presence of an escort.
(7) Lastly, should we bring food and water for the models?

Regards,

Flauvius
