I have been offered, a second hand and in good condition, serviced and with 3 month warranty. Boxed and comes complete with either Oxygen Le for the PC or Oxygen 2.62 for the Mac. Includes all calibartion targets, masks, cables and holders.

How much dou think this is worth?

The IQ2 is about $12000 new in the US.

I would consider what kind of environment it has been used in, how hard it has been worked. If it was used all day every day then not as much value.

Things to keep in mind are the parts are expensive. For example each of the glass are $1000. I am not sure how much the lamps are but at some point it will need replacement.

I love my IQ, it is very well built, simple to use and produces excellent scans.

I would think if you could purchase it for half of new it would be a good deal.

IMO you might want to look for a used supreme if you can find one at a similar price.

If it doesn't have any issues, $4K-$5K seems fair.

I considered purchasing one of the IQ Smart scanners about four years ago. I tried and tried to get Kodak to respond to my inquiries but had no luck for a year. Yes a year, it took a full year to get a response from them?????. I figured if they had this little interest in selling a scanner then service would be a nightmare too. The short story is that i bought a demo scanner from Fuji. I bought a higher end Finescan 5000 scanner for much less. The retail on the Fuji is ~$30K and i bought it for under $5K. Parts are high for any top end scanner. The glass for the Fuji is $1200 each but a case of 12 bulbs was only a little over $200. Consider that Kodak is notorious for not selling parts or offering service unless you have their very expensive service contract. With either company service is high and parts may not be available for long after a product is discontinued.

Having owned an Imacon scanner previously I would buy another Imacon if it would scan the formats I use. For me I needed a scanner that would scan 11x14 B&W and bigger and the Imacon can't do that. Imacon / Hasselblad quality is excellent and service is equally as good. I ordered custom film holders and had them in a couple of weeks which was half the time I was told. Any questions were answered promptly and accurately unlike Fuji and Kodak. Fuji no longer offers updates to software and Kodak charges but Imacon offers free software updates for all their products.

Unlike Don, I've had good results with service from Kodak. Perhaps I was more persistent, or just happened to find the right people. I have an Eversmart Supreme, which I'm quite happy with.

I've seen prices for this scanner vary all over the place, and can't add to the previoius estimates.

If you're purchasing the scanner in your home town, I would ask for permission to run the calibration sequence at the seller site or permission to return the scanner if you are unable to get a good calibration. The calibration can fail because of dirty mirrors or because the CCD is having problems. Alternatively, pay a lower price and be prepared to do some work or pay someone else to do some work in the event issues arise.

I am buying or inteding to buy from adealer. They say the canner will ber serviced and checked, bulbs and glass should be in good cndition and will have any impact or imapr output. they sell spare parts and offer extended warranties and repairs. The price I am being offered @£5K delivere and installed at my location. Also I am been offered to vist them and Kodak next week at aroadshow to play with IQSMARts and do some scanning and listen to what they have to say. Glass is @£350 a nd bulbs @£250.
The dealr quotes these scanners were originally supplied and service by them - so I should be able to check the history.

Therefore I will test theIQSMART before buying, one thing that I discovered, whilst teh IQSMART1 is advertise as 3200DI, it can only acheive this at 35mm and 6x6, and 2100 DP at 5x4 and 1100 DI at 8x10, whilst the IQSMART2/3 at 4300DPI and 5300DI with any format.

It is a ot of money, however if the results are very good, I might be tempted, a I am using an Epson V750 at the moment, and want sharper raw scans with more depth and better colors out of the scanner.

If it comes with some warranty it sounds like a fair enough deal especially if its in good condition and you seem to have a decent delearship for back up. Also the peace of mind that they will set it up for you so its fully working without the problems from buying unseen from the web.
I hope you are VAT registered so you get your 15% back or is that price without VAT?

Unfortunately No, they want £4550 exc VAT, however they wany £500 for delivery and install and another £150 for the PC software, or i could opt out for MAC only. Which put the overall to @6K

Sounds like you have a pretty good situation.

I'm not sure about the costs for delivery and installation. Some of the costs may be for crating the scanner and all of the accessories.

My understanding is that the software was developed for a Mac and ported to the PC platform. I recommend going with the Mac version. You can pick up a used G4 and run Oxygen on it.

One thing you might ask about are the fluid mount accessories. Kodak's documentation recommends using a fluid mount when the enlargement factor exceeds 800%. If you're printing at 360 dpi, that's about 2880 dpi on the scanner for a 4x5, assuming that you would actually scan the full 4x5 area. Obviously, this is just Kodak's recommendation, but I thought that it might be useful for you to know.

Enjoy your scanner!

The scanner will scan 5x4 and 8x10 at full 4300 dpi resolution, so there is need for the fluid mounting kit, as it is very expensive, over a £1K.

WhatI might opt for is the pc and mac software, initially use for the pc until I get myself a second had mac, does this mean the machine will have to re-calibrated on the second machine?

Tom,
MY company has two of these Kodak iQsmart1 Scanners, used rarely, almost new in great conditions. If you still could use at least one, please make a reasonable offer include your contact info, and I could connect you to the man in charge. I hate to these them go to waste when someone else could use them. The market price is very high still, but I am sure that you could get them for a great deal.
Thank you so much for reading.
