Is true that every thing is relative, but lets give a try, I will start with this one that I call "the guest", young lady and the sewing machine....

Well, I know this image qualifies. This is an image of a part of a frozen mud hole in Tuolumne meadows. " Fade to Black" is all back lit and is an 8x10 carbon transfer print. The image is one you have to see in order to understand the glow the print has and the depth in the shadows. I was hesitant to post it because it is tough to show on the web but thought what the heck. Shot with my Seneca Improved 8x10, Gerogon 300 @ F-45 40 seconds, Polarizer on Efke 25 developed in Pyrocat- HD.

Thanks,

Jim

That's something I learned from Fred Picker. I never would have discovered that on my own. He was a great teacher.

My first okay image with my new (to me) Toyo

"Front Porch" -- Toyo D45M, Fujinon 135mm f/5.6, Fuji FP-100B45 instant film, ISO 100, 1 sec, f/19

Not really going for composition right now, but not ignoring it either. I was aiming for an image with true blacks. The prior shots were over exposed.

Feedback welcome.

How are these? The first is in an undershot turbine grist mill in Smokey Mtn National Park, next is rafters in the cantilever barn at Cades Cove, then there's Bear Cave area at Petit Jean State Park in Arkansas. Last is a plow on display at the cantilever barn in Cades Cove in Tennessee. Most on Acros or Ektapan. Bear Cave is 8x10 Korona the rest are 4x5 Ebony.

Very nice values control, usually back light asks for minus dev and contrast becomes uneasy, like the first two !

Vaughn, thanks for posting this one again. The web does not do this image justice. I have seen the print and it is one of the finest I have ever seen. It is one of Vaughn's prints that got me hooked on carbon printing. Thanks for putting this great image up for everyone to see.

Thanks, Jim. It was just the dimmist lit place I knew of.

Here is another backlit subject, sort of a dimmly lit place...(if a place so filled with light can be "dim"!)

I took this picture on a Mamiya 7II, 80mm lens, and was totally gobsmacked that, with nothing more than automatic exposure and a straight development, I got details from the shadows to the sun in the sky!! Not all detail is visible in this web version but is apparent in a decent print.

Still a newbie, I took this low light shot with the tech III, a 90/8SA with tmax400. Scanned it with the epson V700. Big learning curve for me, all of it, but I love it! I think this is my first post with an actual image. So I hope it uploads alright.

The kitchen at the La Purisima Mission, Lompoc, CA. One of my first 4x5 exposures, made thru one of the openings in the bamboo door I was peering through. All the light in the room was coming from a small window off the the right. 80 second exposure. I couldn't believe it actually came out good, when I saw the film!
