TMY 400 4x5 with xtol Rotary processing

Hi

I'm new to the world of LF "MF user" & Im going to develop tmx 400" I " with xtol using jobo cpp2 .Now, do you recommend this time 6:15 min as starting point ?or any help. many thanks

See the Kodak publication F4043 (the new Tmax 400, aka TMY2) for all the details, but the short answer is "yes"

6:15 is the time given in this document (page5) for Xtol (stock) in a rotary processor at 70F (21C). It's a good starting point. Your subject and/or printing conditions may require some tweaking of this time for optimum results.

Before you develop anything important I recommend that you take three images of a normally lit scene and develop one as per Kodak's time, one 30% less and one 50% more. Probably none of them will be right on, but by comparison you should have a good idea of what time is appropriate for you conditions. Of course you can use a densitometer, etc., but you can get pretty close by eye.

I do TMY 400 Rotary processing with XTOL straight. Follow Paul Butzi's times, they work:

BTW: I have not noticed a difference between the "old" and the "new" TMY 400.

I develop in Xtol 1:1 (less grain) in both 4x5 and 8x10. One has to be sure to use enough developer in the tank (not minimums). Times 10 to 12 minutes depending on what I want to do with the negative (scan or alt-process print). Give it a go if you feel so inclined.

Another nice developer is Formulatory TFX-2.

Everyone has their own times / dilutions / agitations / etc so you'll just have to do the spadework and find what works for you.
For what it's worth, I do my Tmax 400 in XTOL @ 1+2 for 9 minutes in my rotary Jobo and it gives me negatives perfect for scanning.
