Efke 25 sheet film development questions

1) The first question is do I need to use a hardening fixer? Here's how I'll be developing the 8x10 sheet film:

Jobo 3005 drum on a motor base
Pyrocat-HD or MC developer
Water stop bath
Fixer? (I currently use TF-4)

2) How do you wash 8x10 sheet film?

3) Do do you dry 8x10 sheet film, e.g., clip it to a line, clothes line style?

1. No- do not use a hardening fixer with PCat
2. In your case, wash it in the drum with a soft hose running to the bottom of the drum and the water running gently.
3. I clip it too a line sing dental x-ray clips

Pyrocat is a hardening developer. A hardener would be redundant.

Partially true two or three drops of formaldehyde solution put into the dev just prior to use would be far better.

A decent fixer would help as well, Hypam or Ilford Tapid fixer are both fine with Pyrocat and the wash times the same as TF-4.

You'll only need hardening with Efke if you do tray development (or use a process that needs increased temperature or agitation). And then you'll want it as early as possible - hardening fixers are supposed to improve storage in tropical conditions, but would be way too late in the process to protect against damage in processing (where the most critical times are late in development and at the moment the alkalized emulsion hits the acid stop or fixer).

Wash the film in a printwasher. I use the standard Zone VI 8x10 printwasher.

Give each neg 30 seconds in Photo Flo.

Hang to dry on a wire using clothespins.

NOTE: In The Zone VI Workshop, Fred Picker said 8x10 negs had to be "sponged off" before hanging to dry. NOT true, Betty Lou!

Pre soak the film in water, I have given the film 5 minutes in my Jobo drum with water and still found dye on the negative. So now i give it five minutes of rotation, dump, then another 2 minutes with fresh water.
