San Juan Islands-Washington

I am headed for the San Juan Islands in Washington for two days and nights this weekend. If you have any pictures of these islands please share them with the us.

I only look at them from across the water (and the imaginary line that separates our countries). Also not LF, sorry.

Just the distant land masses in all these cases. Some of them might be Canadian islands, too. They look the same from a dsitance.

The boat looks very familiar. Or at least the design is familiar.

Geologically the San Juans are a splintered group of the Cascade range which separated (faulting) and drifted away and then became isolated by glacial recession creating the Puget Sound. Some of the rocks on the islands are the "basement" (Turtleback formation) rocks of the Cascades, underlying the whole Cascade range. Or at least what I remember of my geology.

For Labor Day a few years back (~2003), I spent a week bicycling from SeaTac to Anacortes, thru the islands by ferry where I tent camped, across to Vancouver where I took the ferry across the Strait of Juan De Fuca (sp) to the Olympic Peninsular, nd around the Peninsular back to SeaTac. Although I was prepared to camp, the motels were all in the $25 range so I stayed in them rather than tent camping. The rain held off until the final 15 minutes of the ferry ride back to Seattle but stopped upon disembarking. I got to the airport right at dark, got the bike boxed-up and slept on the air mattress in the lobby. (My return flight departed at 5AM.)

That was a great trip! Took a 35mm Pentax K1000SE and shot chromes.
