Goertz Red Dot Artar for Color Photography?

Has anyone used one of these old process lenses for color work? I understand they're sharp as a tack, but what kind of results could be expected for general 8x10 landscape color photography?

APOchromatic - what more needs to be said? The RED DOT is not optimized for 1:1 as many process lenses are, but for 1:10 instead. They will usually be sharpest about 1 stop down from wide open. After that they're only "as sharp" as the best lenses made today. :-) They're biggest drawback is coverage, it's about 48? - so they are only suited for longer focal lengths at infinity. As a minimum you'll probably need about an 16" (or is it 16-1/2"?) on an 8x10 for ease of mind. But there are a lot of 14" ones floating around lately - maybe someone who has one can comment on the coverage. Shutterless versions are very easy to come by - but check the price for conversion before you dive in.
