View Full Version : Betax shutter question

I just picked up a Wolly Velo II in a Betax No. 4. The lens and shutter are very clean, but the shutter operates properly with only 1 of 4 different cable releases. The Ebony release works great, but the others appear to have too short of a plunger (I guess size does matter).
This is my first lens in a Betax. Is this an unusual or a normal thing?

Harley,
that would be perfectly normal, they like a long throw cable release.
Have fun with it.

Mine don't particularly like any cable release! :) I've had the best luck with one modified with a blob of epoxy on the end, both lengthening the stroke and making the tip wider.

I had the same problem with my Betax. A long throw release like the Gepe will fire one, but I have to stick the end deep into the socket in order to engage the threads--then it's no problem. The Velo II is a great lens--enjoy!

The Older, longer Prontors Have A Full 1" Throw. They Are Nice Lenses.
Enjoy. Joe A

Its even possible to find a cable every now and then that will fit the larger male thread on the shutter, that also has a long enough throw to get the job done. PM me if you can't find any locally. I know a place in my area that has some.
