Just bought a Leaf Aptus 22 digital back (with Hasselblad V mount). I had used it with Hasselblad 503 CXi with very good results.

Now, with a adaptor plate, I put Aptus to view camera. I connected Aptus 22 with view camera lens with a sync cord, same way that I connected Hassel 503, but nothing happened when I fired the shutter of that lens. Could you advise how I solve this problem?

you may have to "wake up" the back something done automatically by the 503 body. try firing the shutter two times, the first to wake up the back, the second to make the exposure

If you are using an older lens/shutter that has "M" and "X" sync, be sure the shutter on the lens is set to "X" sync.

Hello asd,

Hopefully you have solved your sync issues with connecting your Aptus with your view camera and lens. However, if this is not the case, please read further.

BTW, unlike the Phase One backs, because the Aptus employs an active fan for cooling down the digital sensor, no wake up procedure is necessary between shots.

I have not used an Aptus back in this fashion for several months, but I checked with the Installation Guide (which should still be available online) and below is the excerpt from the appropriate page in the manual:

Using a Mechanical Shutter Lens

1. Make sure the camera is securely mounted on a tripod.
2. Attach the mechanical shutter lens to the large format camera.
3. Attach the Graflock adaptor to the back of the camera and secure it.
4. Remove the protective cover from Leaf Aptus.
5. Attach the digital camera back to the Graflock adaptor.
6. Insert one end of the Camera-to-Sync cable into the mechanical
shutter lens and the other end into the Camera-to-Back Sync socket of
Leaf Aptus. If you are working in tethered mode, go to step 8 now.
7. Install the compact flash card. The installation is complete.

Note: If you want to work with an external flash, connect the Flash Sync cable
between the Leaf Aptus digital camera back and the Flash/Strobe units.

Now a couple of things to note: I initially did not have any success with this setup just like you.

I had ordered the correct Camera-to-Sync cable from Leaf and attached the cable correctly as shown in the photo and then followed all of the steps outlined as was necessary for my "in the field" setup.

And still nothing worked.

What I found that solved the problem for me was that the instructions (to my recollection) FAIL TO MENTION that within that beautiful onscreen menu system on the Aptus back there is a small function setting that you must change to make everything function properly with the view camera lens setup.

I hope this post helps. If you still do not have any success, let me know and I will put together the same camera setup and double check my steps for you.

Kind Regards,

Joe

Thank you Joe.

I found out later exactly what you mentioned. In order that Aptus 22 works with different cameras or lens, we have to go to the setup manual of Aptus 22 where I select "view camera" in this case. Then, everything becomes normal.

When I go back to Hasselblad camera, I have to select Hasselblad 500 in the manual.
