View Full Version : imacon precision III true resolution
Hi.
Is the true optical resolution of a Imacon Flextight Precision II the same as the one on a Precision II?
The precision II has according to the user guide:
24x36 = 5760 dpi
36x24 = 3200 dpi
60x60 = 3200 dpi
60x90 = 3200 dpi
60x120 = 3200 dpi
4x5 = 1800 dpi
A4 = 960 dpi
but what have the precision III?

Imacon's claims have long been questioned. They are theoretical optical resolutions - not real ones.
The optical rez of the Imacon has been rated as 4094. Since this is a CCD scanner, which uses a total number of pixels, as opposed to pixels per inch,that rez will be divided by the size of the film width. There are some ways that some scanners get around this, but that's the basic view.
Imacon has been so far off in resolution, and especially DMax, that I wouldn't believe anything the company stated. Given that, you are correct to ask others that have these devices... There is also an Imacon group on Yahoo Groups where you could probably get a lot of very good info... by people who use it every day.

The stated top resolution for the Precision III is 6300 PPI for 24x36 but as Lenny said, the actual resolution is much lower.
