I want to encourage everyone to watch Maestro Abreu's TED Prize acceptance speech, which I just saw live. He set up 'El Sistema,' which is the by now famous Venezuelan youth classical music education program that reaches 300,000 youth cross the country from all walks of life, especially the poor and indigent. What he says about the transformative power of music and music education for our spirits, individually and communally applies in every way to all arts, including photography. I think it may be the most powerful and moving speech about art I have ever heard, truly. It's in Spanish, but the subtitles are highly accurate. I am not sure how soon it will archive to TED's site, but I hope it's soon. Enjoy!
