Hello, I've had this camera tucked away in a closet for many years now. I was recently thinking about selling it but I'm not sure what the camera actually is. I also don't know how to make the lens extend out. If anyone has any input or info it would be greatly appreciated. It says f=150mm 6540394 <--- I think thats the model number but I'm not sure. Here are a few pictures I took of the camera.
Thank You in advance, If you request any more info I would be glad to supply it.

That's an early 4x5" Linhof Technika V with a very desirable 150mm/f:4.5 Apo-Lanthar lens, all the more desirable if there is a cam with a serial number matching the serial number of the lens. The cam looks like a metal blade and should be under the focus rail. The serial number of the lens should be on the top surface, and there should be no serial number on the bottom surface.

Thank You for your reply David. The serial number I posted was from the blade I think "It says f=150mm 6540394" If that serial is indeed from the blade/cam then where would;the actual camera serial be located. I'm a total noob when it comes to this camera and appreciate your help.

Also here is another picture showing what I think is the blade

Yes, that's the cam. The serial number should be somewhere on one or both of the lens cells and should match the serial number on the cam. If you rack the focusing rail forward, you can remove the cam, just by pulling it out of its shoe, and look on the back of the cam. If there is no serial number, then it is a Tech V/Master Tech type cam, so the cam and lens can be used together accurately on other Tech V or Master Tech bodies. If it has a serial number on the back, then the cam is matched to an earlier Tech IV body, so the lens would need to be recammed for the rangefinder to be perfectly accurate (though it may be pretty close with an unmatched cam), because Tech IV cams are serial number matched to both the body and the lens, while Tech V/MT cams need only be matched to the lens.

The serial number of the camera is usually on the accessory shoe (which looks like a flash shoe) on top, and if you have a version with a removable accessory screw (there should be a nut that you can loosen with your fingers under the shoe inside the body), the serial number of the camera should match the one on the shoe. Looking more closely at the pictures now, it looks like you do have a removable accessory shoe, and it is currently holding the viewfinder sight, which works together with the wire frame finder attached to the front standard. You can simply slide the sight out of the shoe to read the camera's serial number.

The camera has scales and stops for two more lenses. If you have the other lenses, and if they have cams, that would make for a more desirable set.

Thank you very much for all your help David.

I've figured out the serial numbers.
Camera: 82866
Cam/Blade: 6540394
Lens: 6540394
How could I find out if the serials are matching? Is there a website that has the numbers listed?

I wish I did have the other 2 lenses but I don't. They weren't offered at the estate sale I originally purchased this camera from. Or maybe they were and I just missed them "kicking myself now".

Here are a couple pictures of the camera open and there is also a reverse mirror attachment that works for this camera. Its on top of the box.

Again, Thank You for all your help

If you or anyone has any ideas of how to sell this camera that would be great.
The only idea I have is ebay and I'm sure there are better places

That is a nice camera, although it probably needs a cleaning, lubrication and adjustment service to be up to spec, and sometimes the bellows on these gets dry or the glue joint gets "gummy" with age (the seam along the bottom). The shutter is probably a bit gummed up too, but that is easily cleaned. Most buyers will know this going into it as long as you explain the situation.

This forum has a free For Sale section but I think you have to be a member for a month first. Also photo.net and apug.org have active large format For Sale sections.

The entire used photo equipment market is down but you should be able to still get at least $7-800 for an Tech V body in need of service and a possible bellows replacement. The lens is rare and valuable but I haven't tracked prices, it may be worth up around $500 I think (with a cam). All the Linhof bits and tiny accessories are valuable so don't overlook the "extras" like the grip, wire frame finder, infinity stops, etc.

I think that Frank's prices are somewhat low. My guess is more like $2500-3000 for the camera and lens. Or $500 less if the bellows has holes.

The main thing is that the serial numbers on the cam match the lens, and it's the right cam for the camera. If you wanted to sell it, you could sell it as a package or sell the lens, cam, focusing scale and infinity stops of the same color as one package, and the camera in the original box as another package, but it's a nice setup, so try it, and you may want to keep it.

That reflex viewer in the background is another nice accessory.
