I've been tracking a 240mm f5.6 on dabay. It recently closed unsold with a buy it now or best offer price of $299. It's listed as a Symmar-S, branded Caltar.
I was prepared to offer the seller $250, but he's relisted it at $399.

Didn't sell at $299, re-listed at $399.

Did he dodge the bullet by not selling at $299 and is he now correctly listed at $399?
It'll be interesting to watch.

Why not ask him?

I've watched a seller relist a Deardorff V8 for $1250 a few times (unsold). It was recently relisted at $1450. Go figure.

There's a segment of most markets that thinks the more they pay the better the product must be. Maybe he's trying to catch that segment of the LF lens market.

it happens. like brian said...if the price is too low people do not think it has value.

i see you have been watching for some caltar lenses. they are great lenses! i love mine. great value for buyers...liability for sellers.

to bad you missed the one i was trying to sell here, super nice too......ended up going on dabay for $150. keep your eyes out. they routinely sell for 100-150.

keep your eyes out for the 8 1/2 f4.8. it is convertible. they say it BARELY covers 8x10 as well. i have a very nice one that i have yet to try out.

good luck. be patient. you should be able to get one for less that 150.

there is no logic in ebay sales imo.

Some of the people on the auction sites are the sharpest tools in the shed. Send the seller a note and tell him/her that you would be willing to buy the lens for xxx and see what they say. It could go well for you but anything that even begins to sound wrong, pass and find another.

He changed his listing a bit too...included something about the book value being $650.
I'll wait (if I don't buy something else) for his listing to expire again. If it sells at the higher price, more power to him. If not, he'll likely be open to offers around his original price.

I offered the seller $200 for that lens last time around, since I needed the shutter more than anything else. He turned me down and re-listed at a higher price. Since the lens has marks on the glass, his new price is too high.

Reason #847 why I quit ebay.

It must be that the $$$ have gotten so much stronger since the new depression...
I.e. it used to be worthwhile to check the US *bay from time to time, but since the $$ have gained some 20-25% it's no fun anymore.
But I also agree that the *bay is kind of crazy.

Come on. The dollar is still around $1.30 to the Euro. Everybody knows our prices are silly cheap compared to Europe. Send us your Euros!

I'm from Sweden, where we still have our own currency. A few months ago it fell through the floor compared to both the mighty dollar and the euro. (Most politicians here are pro-euro and are giving the "lesser people" who voted against joining the monetarian communith lots of shit these days. "Now see what you voted for...")
But OK, our "Krona" has fallen by say 25% and we can "cope" with it. Things are a bit worse on Iceland, where their local "Krona" became almost worthless over-night.

You can pick up a 240mm Rodenstock Sironar N or Nikkor W for $299 or less. Also look for a 240mm Caltar - same as Rodenstock Sironar 240mm. One went for $190 last month.
Take care,
Mike

Well, that's true, but then you have postage, 6.7% custom fee and then 19% on all ( actual cost plus postage plus custom fee ) importing fee. That about does it for the silly cheap

I wanted to ask about that one.

It's showig some seperation between the two front elements. I have no idea how serious that is or if this is a good price.

Maybe a little high given that issue. Several nice lenses were posted there last night.

I just bought the 90mm super angulon. I'd intended to get my longer lens first, but that one looked good, so I jumped.

Cool. Now we can get samples and your account of using the lens on a Graphic body. Crown Graphic, right?

Once I get a lensboard and leave from my wife to actually shoot something.
