Ken, that one is extraordinary. The wintery misty mood is conveyed soooo well...
the year of the ox! i do not have an ox so a dragon will have to do....i do not want to wait till 2012!
8x10 black aluminum 6 1/2 x 8 1/2 RR lens wide open.
Really nice pics guys!
Eddie you are so creative! I love the dragon. I wish I was more incline to experiment with different processes, but I really dislike all the chemical stuff. Cobalt, my date last night brought me some flowers, so your beautiful still life has inspired me to photograph them today for my first 2009 shot -- thank you for the inspiration. And Mr. Ken, as always, your photography is simply lovely!!
Happy New Year Guys!

Almost 2009. Shot about 30 minutes before midnight at 31th Dec. Developed in 2009.
This was my 4th ever large format shot, and the first time I developed sheet film.

Since there are no rules, I am attaching my first print of the year.
It is a 12X18" carbon transfer print, depicting a mural painting by Alfredo Zalce. The negative was made in the Palacio del Gobierno in Morelia, Mexico in January 2007. This is the first time I have printed the negative. I scanned the negative yesterday, adjusted the file, and printed a digital negative. First print made today, 1 January 2009.

Did my first images of Stine in more than 1.5 years...
played with some old pol 665 and solarized them.
both painted with light, with an exposure time of aprox. 30 sec.. (she knows how to stand still.......)
Happy new year to all.
Steve,
First, thanks for your nice comment about the image.
I have a rather large number of very good negatives that have never been printed. The basic problem is that I have chosen to print mostly with carbon tranfer, which is a very time consuming alternative printing process. If I quite making new negatives, abandoned carbon for a year and printed only with pt/pd, I might be able to catch up. But then, make new negatives is an important part of seeing and putting past work in perspective.

There is an upside to having a backlog of course. You've always got some good stuff to look forward too - come rain or shine.
I particularly like your image as, at first sight, is not clear that it's part mural and part staircase. At first I saw it all as the mural. I like images with a puzzle that tempt you to look closer.
Sorry, I could not post my first photos. They were captured on January 1, 2009 with my mind's eye and not on film (since I am 6'3", 240 pounds, I think I can count as being a "large format":p ).
I spent New Years Day in the redwoods and the rain with my three boys (the 8x10 stayed in the van...just too wet). But the light under the redwoods was amazing, forever captured in this bottomless pit of a mind I have...though perhaps a bit transformed in the processing...mingleing with years of other redwood images!

Well I actually was able to quickly make a shot yesterday thank you to the inspiration of this thread. Not the best, but a good start in the right direction for my New Year Resolution. Shot in the kitchen with lights out, dark cloth draped over kitchen chair, halogen desk lamp as main light, mirror on stand as fill and I waved a small flash light to the underside to help lighten up the shadows. Yes, I have a few studio lights, but after the night before, I was too tired to even attempt to drag them out. I find a decent desk light does come in handy. :)

Hey Emil, got the Plasticca today!! It's a beauty!! Perfect condition (a crap shoot when the camera comes all the way from Germany). First 5 full plate negs are drying as we speak! :~')) This old funky stuff is too much fun. Too bad I've got all these S. Baptist inhibitions and cannot do nudes  Yours are lovely.

Sandy, I love this image and I know it is amazing. As a carbon printer myself I now how beautiful this image must be in the flesh. Our fellow photographers are really missing out on this amazing process. Did 4 carbon prints today and 2 yesterday. Will post some images as soon as I get the scanner hooked up.

vBulletin probably is not recognize it as standard jpg becous of file extension. If you change file extension from .jpeg to .jpg and upload again, then will show as thumbnail.

OK, so it took over a week to take any pics for me (not counting cell phone pics), but here are some of the better shots from 6 I did yesterday at Arastradero Lake in Palo Alto CA (http://www.city.palo-alto.ca.us/depts/csd/parks_and_open_space/preserves_and_open_spaces/pearson_arastradero.asp)
I was going for the reflection, I just didn't expect the 200 M-Nikkor to do such a good job of catching the power lines:

I have no idea what happened to the sky, I think the negative curled in the holder, but I kind of like it after all:

My first photo of 2009.
Taken 4th january. Vantaanjoki river, Vantaa, Finland.
I wen't to check if river nearby has some ice because it had been subzero temperatures for several days. There was some ice!
And it was somewhat cold, about -12 degree celcius. My fingertips really got frozen when touching my field camera's knobs.
Afterwards ice melted, but now it's again freezing so let's see if I can get more ice photos during next month.
