It has been really so so long time ago since i came here and to comment, i got so ....ed in life and many things happened and changed my situations, i hope i can return back to photography before it is too late or i die and never happen, who knows.
So a silly question for you all, from your experience and long time into it, which film as B&W and Color do you prefer or you like the most for landscape with your LF?
How do you get the picture in Flickr to show full size here?
On the Flickr page for your photo, there's a curved arrow symbol for "share photo". Click that, then in the popup that opens go to the "BBCode" tab. In that tab there is a drop-down list where you can choose a size of preview you want for the photo with embedded link. Make the selection, then copy and paste the resulting code in the box above to the forum here. Et voila.

Thanks Gabe. I tried that originally and for some reason, it didn't work. But it's working now. So now I can't delete the small picture even when I erase that when editing. Do you know how to do that?

You mean the attachment? Not sure as I don't think I've ever used the attachment function on this forum. I assume there will be a way for you to delete it, or a mod could perhaps.

Yes the attachment. When I erase it when editing, it doesn't disappear after I Save it. Does anyone know how to get rid of the little attachment photo?

Nice shot Dave. Some leaves in the closest foreground seem a little blue on my monitor. Yet other leaves appear green. I wonder if that's because of more shade where they're blue? In any case, maybe a warming filter would help or you can adjust that out in editing.

Thank you for your comment. I have printed this out at A3+ and the colours look good to me. So I'm happy as is. Though I do have a set of warm-up filters I don't think I'd use these with Ektachrome E100 because one of the film characteristics that this would risk distorting would the Kodak warmth already in the highlights and midtones (I might use them with Fujichrome: Provia, for instance, or Velvia with lots of green).

I fail to see any difference between landscapes taken with Large Format equipment, and anything else. It's just a lot more work with the camera, and somewhat less in the darkroom.
And a lot more detail, texture and tonal separation. The work in the darkroom is just as much, and often more.

Made with the Intrepid 8x10 camera and my 300mm Industar-37 lens, on CatLabs X80 II film, exposed at 40ASA and developed in PMK Pyro.
60 second exposure at f22.
Update: I also made this photograph on Bergger Pancro 400 for comparison (https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52683894095_0d61ee5b7c_k.jpg), if you're interested in seeing how it compares to the CatLabs (Foma) film. I'll offer this much: the Bergger film is at least 2 stops faster, and has graoin equal to or finer than the CatLabs X80 II, which surprised me. The Bergger film also has much greater resolution power than the CatLabs, which did not surprise me. Now if only we can get a refresh of the Bergger film here in the US.....

It was a rather precarious setup, the tripod at maximum, the bottom edge of the image was at the very end of the rocky outcrop ~ 6 feet above the surrounding ground. It was also stormy/windy and hail was intermittently coming down. Taken with a Wista 45SP, bag bellows, Schneider 47XL SA. And, of course, you're looking at the scene upside down and in retrograde, while you are at the same time wondering if the ground is going to rise up and smack you ;)
The sad thing, someone has damaged parts of the petroglyphs in this area, cutting out areas with a rock saw.

Even though human made, the petroglyphs sites exist within the context of, and are wholly tied to the immediate surrounding environment, whatever the original purpose might have been for the indigenous people who worked to create these human heritage sites (art, seasonal calendar, navigation, spiritual), thieves cutting out and destroying, removing a part, lessens the whole, and it also lessens the part. It's a total disgraceful disrespectful degradation. But then old growth thousand-year-old Sequoia trees were turned into fence posts back in the day.

I 100% agree; that is truly disgusting behavior. I hope the parts that remain, remain undisturbed.

An alternate version of a scene I uploaded earlier (now deleted). After giving it some thought I found I preferred the more subtle, subdued tones of this one.

If you’re referring to the vignetting, I believe I got my filter holder in the shot. Hadn’t tested it on the 90mm lens yet.
I don't see anything obviously unsharp top-left in that photo...

No not the vignetting. Probably it’s the haze then and the fact that at the top right only sees sharp by color contrasts there. The heath at the foreground is definitely sharper to my eyes

I didn't find it being unsharp. I do see vignetting in the sky in the upper left and right corners. But that's probably because no center filter was used, an aesthetic effect some people like. It looks like he used a GND filter.
It's a nice shot. You got the colors very natural looking. What was your scanning and editing routine? I have trouble with negative color film and have stuck with chromes. They're just easier to scan and set the colors accurately.

Thanks Martin. E100 is a great film, and the updated workflow makes the repro so accurate and easy it almost feels wrong. I need to do virtually nothing to the files now except crop out the border and apply some RAW sharpening. I'm like a cat in cream here ;)

Alan,
I scan all of my C-41 as a positive file, and do the inversion in photoshop. I apply my scanner color correction profile to the initial positive image, and then invert it. A good place to start is to use either the levels adjustment in Photoshop. If you hold the ALT key while clicking the auto button, it will bring up a submenu where you can choose the algorithm. "Enhance Per Channel Contrast" is the same is if you were to set the levels for each RGB channel. You can set the amount of clipping for highlights and shadows respectively. "Snap Neutral Midtones" helps remove color casts in the mids. From there I set the gamma with the mids slider in the same levels adjustment layer. This gets you to the first image below. I then use the Color Balance adjustment layer to further dial it in. Finish with a curves adjustment gets you to the second image below. The rest is done with more selective curves layers and a plugin called "Lumenzia". This plugin allows you to dodge/burn specific tonal ranges.

It's really not once you get used to it. Luminosity masking in particular (the process Lumenzia uses) is very powerful; I use it a lot for editing all types of files, not just colour neg.

Unfortunately, I only have the old Lightroom purchased licensed variety which doesn't have masking, nor does my PS Elements.

Some of the oasis's have been removed when the widened the tollway, but some remain, I'm not sure how many though. I hope they will not all disappear as I think they are significant architecturally and speak to our society as well. The company that sponsored the publication of my Chicago River book manages them.

Also, I had to look at Google cause I wasn't so sure where Wisconsin is. For real. The midwestern/northern states are confusing to me. Wisconsin is more north than the more populated part of Canada!

Scanning-Digital camera
Very interesting
Tell us more about the 45 scanning back
Not a scanning back. You can see he used Ektar for the capture. The digital camera was used to "scan" the negative.

This is how I scanned with a Sony A 7r II digital camera and a macro lens. I put the negative on the Kaiser light table. I took a photo of the negative that was lying flat on the table with the help of coins in the corners. It's a very simple method and almost free. I opened the photographed negative in photoshop and there using the curves tool I inverted the negative and determined the colors. When scanning a 4x5 negative, it is easy to compare with 35 film because smaller film is not as flat. then you need a special holder that can not always flatten the film.
To better show this in the link below from minute 24:08 Brian shows the method I used to scan. https://youtu.be/jGt9p3rTmT4
Also here on YouTube I found the best method to edit the negative in photoshop.

If you have any questions, I will be happy to answer them to be able to repay you for the knowledge I gained on this forum despite my poor English, a transtator often helps me.

I like this one. A shame about the trace of flare. Would be quite easy to correct in the scan though.
