Tripod Mounting Holes on Canham DLC

I used to own a Canham DLC. It was a great camera and I often regret selling it.

For those fortunate enough to own one, I have a favor to ask.

The DLC has two threaded tripod mounting holes on the base of the camera. One has 1/4-20 threads and the other 3/8-16. Could some kind Canham owner please measure the center-to-center distance between these two mounting holes and post the result here?

On mine the centres are close together and measure as best I can do at 0.690" or 17.53mm. This is using a vernier caliper on the screw heads and as both screws are the same size, it was fairly easy to get the centre dimensions. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response. It's been a while since I had my DLC (I did some of my best work with that camera) and I couldn't remember how close the tripod holes were. Your measurements indicate that they are quite close.

Incidently I use a RRS MPR-1b rail to mount to the tripod head. This is longer than needed but I find it is really good to be able to "balance" the setup with different lenses by moving the camera back and forth in the tripod head. You could do this on the DLC (and the MQC) by moving the front and rear standards but balance won't be as good.

I used to use a RRS B35 with my DLC. It worked fine, but at 3.25 oz. a little heavy for what it was (a 3.5" long QR plate).

I now have two other plates that will work. Being a habitual ounce counter, I have a plate that's 2.7" (69mm) long that weight only 1.3 oz. In something longer, I have a 6.7" (170mm) long plate that weighs less (3.0 oz.) than my old RRS B35 plate. Like the B35, these plates have two mounting screws for a secure, twist-free connection between the plate and the camera.

Given my propensity to shave ounces, I'll probably go with the smaller plate.
