Decided to try to figure out this whole focus stacking thingy - tried it more than 10 years ago and did it manually in PS - took way to long. Used my Fuji X100v, had the camera shoot the exposures automatically and processed them in CombineZP. I think it worked pretty good. More experimenting to do. This is 15 images blended together.

Nice one Bryan. You may be thinking of Whooping Cranes, of which there are so few. Sandhill Cranes are currently “of least concern” from a conservation standpoint. They are wonderful birds.
Hi David,
Thanks, but take a look at Mississippi Sandhills. They are a distinct species. Yes, they look very similar to normal Sandhills.
This one is smaller and untagged, so perhaps younger. From my understanding they are slightly darker grey than regular Sandhills.
https://www.fws.gov/refuge/mississippi-sandhill-crane
I've seen thousands of regular Sandhills at other refuges. One excellent refuge is Wheeler in north Alabama.

TC,
Not excessive in my view. Oscar Wilde once said "Everything in moderation, including moderation". LOL I like this new rig. :)
Does Drew have a Mamiyaflex?
My biggest issue with the Mamiya Paramender, is that I repeatedly forget to raise the lens before exposing! Must be getting old.......
I know you like it
Me too
I have a stack of failed Mamiya TLR
One, the oldest works fine, but every Paramender I found a decade ago was in very bad non working condition
and expensive

The other day I bought this Mamiya TLR original Paramender, from Gary himself at World of Photography for $10. I really like his relocated new store, it has a very funky vibe, and it's loaded to the gills. Took this unit home, and darnit, the metal is super loose and floppy, but the original screws are stii there! Examined it carefully and JBWeld to the rescue AGAIN. I pried the rail up, so I could smooth JBWeld with the flat end of a toothpick, smearing on a thick coat. Took both screws out of the rail, they are completely stripped out, smeared JB Weld on the threads thickly, then jammed the screws in and make sure I have a good hold. Wrapped both ends of the rail tightly, using blue masking tape. 24 hours later, it's good as new and works smoothly. In camera stores, we used to say this was "huffed". But now fixed and these are going over a hundred bucks on Ebay. Actually I like the patina, This will work great with my fave C2 Mamiyaflex, I also have a much cleaner Paramender to go on my C22's and C33's.
You can do ANYTHING with JBWeld if you put on your thinking cap.
...
My biggest issue with the Mamiya Paramender, is that I repeatedly forget to raise the lens before exposing!
Thanks, I feel much better now knowing it's not just me.

I've wanted this CFV16 Hasselblad Digital Back for over twenty years. This one came along at a decent price and now it's mine. FAT PIXELS and Beautiful Colors, this is a coveted Hasselblad item. And it matches up perfectly to my 500C/M and 500 EL/M bodies. Kinda like shooting Kodachrome.

Congrats, I've also wanted one for a long time too but the price kept putting me off for the amount of use it would get. It has been some time since I've checked what they are going for now though.

I paid just a bit under $3000 and I am delighted with my purchase. There is one on Ebay for $4250, this one is a Hasselblad refurb from an actual owner.

I've downsized from 5x7 otherwise I might have posted this in the “Have you downsized from 8x10” topic. I can’t afford a box of 5x7 film at the moment. Here is a huge enlargement from a 110 negative just shot with my mom’s Kodak Ektalite 28 Instamatic on Lomo Orca film. I pulled the enlarger head all the way to the top, but could only manage a 7x9 image.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230825/4fa9059719adbd453a842be35ec1c93e.jpg
Trust me. It looks better in person. I’d say it actually not that bad. I think that is the official Kansas state motto. “Kansas, it’s not that bad”Kind of like a clear pinhole picture with texture (grain).

First test of new to me Hasselblad CFV16 Digital Back, 25th Anniversary 500C/M, 100mm T* Planar, EI 200, right out of the box. They are right, it is super easy to use right out of the gate. Ordering some CF Cards, Batteries, a better charger, and will need the EL Cable coming from B&H, what I have is not the right one for my 500 EL/M. When that arrives I will be good to go using either camera. This is a new type of photography to me.

Thanks Roger. I got lucky with the color of that house.

The color looks good. The widest lens I have for my 500CM is a 50mm. And if I got a digital back I know I'd end up wanting that 40mm for it too which is not cheap adding to the expense of getting that digital back.

Here I am playing around with my digital CFV16 Hasselblad Back on my motorized EL/M Body, with 80mm Planar at minimum focus distance. Got a Pulso Beauty Light with a HoneyGrids Ten Degree Grid Attachment straight down. A mirror just off camera left to add some kick light. Love shooting digitally with the EL/M it's very fluid and user friendly in every way so far. Printed out the instruction book it covers a lot. Loving that the olde Hasselblad CFV16 Back works so well with my Big Broncolor Lights.

Here I've got my Hasselblad EL/M Body playing nicely with my new Hasselblad CFV16 Digital Back. I am finding that I prefer the Standard Central Cross Screen, with a drop-in mask 3D printed in Italy. Easiest to see sharp focus across the entire field using these. I sold off my black T* Distagon years ago, now I have a nice one back in the fold, a 50mm Hood is coming ina few days. Batteries and CF Cards sorted, I have plenty. My olde CDS Meter works great with the CFV16, reads out directly in EV's, which was the idea with the olde lenses. Running the CDS Meter on an MR9 and 386 power combo, it seems to be TTL accurate with the CFV16. This is going to be great FUN, I'm sure I'll be using my Blads more with this fat pixel back. If I like something I might even shoot it on 120 film as a choice! The Rubber Eyecup is from the Kiev 60 Meter Prism, I gathered up a bunch of them, back in my Wedding Daze.

This is the first test of the 500mm F8 Oberkochen Opton Hasselblad lens. EL/M Body with Olde Hasselblad CDS Meter Prism indicated EV14.5. Set that on the lens, this is the result. Hasselblad CFV16 Digital Back set to Ei 200, camera/lens mounted on a Plaubel Peco 2 Way Head, attached to sturdy Manfrotto legs. The pretty new Magnolia tree is our yard was blowing visibly, the 500mm shutter seems to have frozen it, there was a lot of leaf movment in the breeze. It is fun to play with the new digital back and I am loving the saturated colors I'm getting. Hasselblad says it's the fat pixels, but also how much space is around each pixel. Anyways I'm loving the color right out of the camera. Shooting distance was 28 feet, the absolute minimum focus distance on the lens. So I will add extension tubes if needed.

For months we've had wildfire smoke drifting over causing seeing to be pretty bad. Sunday night finally had some decent seeing though and so I shot a few targets to get back into the swing of things.
Here's the Pleiades star cluster, which I've always liked. For the first time, I varied the exposure to see how that would work with the stacking software and it seemed to work well. I'll have to get that another go with Andromeda.

Yep this is Mamyflex 105DS with Parramender. Also shot same with 500C/M with 100mm Planar. Pretty much identical negs, hard to tell apart. Both are good shooters for different reasons. Now I have digital CFV too. :) I bought a case of Pan F 120 expired from the basement of MPEX, they had a pallet of it. Now getting down to the end of it. A dollar a roll as I remember.
Thirty years ago I studied Tim Kelly's portrait techniques. Now I am revising and revisiting it in my smaller studio. A Broncolor C171 monolight with modern 360 degree Broncolor Balloon Head at 90 degrees left. Another C171 with Pulso Softbox at 45 degrees left, set one stop brighter. A whitish fill panel semi silver at 45 degrees right, just out of the shot Finally, a smaller C70 Broncolor Monolight, with custom made old Broncolor snoot and grid, 45 degrees right but up very high, creating the spot of light just to the right and slightly above the test subject. The idea is that the lighting reads "dark, light, dark, light" which creates an artistic rhythm that is very classic. Mamiya C33 105DS Yellow Filter, and Paramender for precision composition. Ilford Pan F+ developed in D23 1:1 in JOBO tank on Unicolor Uniroller. Omega DII laser aligned with Omegalite Head and 180mm black Rodagon. Arista #2 RC 8x10 paper developed in Multigrade. Hasselblad 500C/M 60mm F3.5 Zeiss Distagon C T* CFV16 Digital Back. An olde crusty Acetate Mask needs to be reprinted and made clean. But the effect of this olde mask is kind of cool IMO. Olde Broncolor strobe spotlights are fun to play with :)

My knock around camera very stealthy. Mamiyaflex C2 with 180mm lens, original Mamiya Hood, Hartblei K88 Stovpipe and Paramender. Mounted on StarD tripod very lightweight but sturdy. A Workin' Man's Camera LOL. The front of the 180 was schmushed, so cut strips of Hollywood Gaffer Tape and taped the filters on, good as new to me. The screws in the Paramender were stripped out, so I glued them back in place with JBWELD. Also good as new, like the patina. Set was lit by my new to me Visatec 1600B Monolight with an Impact 600J Beauty Light attached. Marty Rickard Mirror Unit on left side reflecting a selective bit of fill. Backgrouund by Artist James Bright. One of the plastic knobs on the StarD were smashed; I replaced it with one from an Olde Leitz Tiltall. Otherwise it's all stock and original. You compose with the top lens, then raise the camera the correct amount using the Paramender. Only problem is a few times I have forgotten to do that! LOL

I found this olde resolution test sheet recently. Placed it in an Omega 6x6 D2 Carrier, placed it on lightbox. Zeiss 50mm F2.8 Makro Planar T* on Sony Nex7. Auto Everything result. Resolution looks pretty good to me! I'm just starting to learn about digitizing negatives. I think this is a pretty good setup.

So a couple of months ago I shot in a storm in New Orleans. I had a couple rolls of film in my pocket. I think this one must have gotten waterlogged and I didn't realize it. The emulsion melted off the second half of the roll.
Unexpected, often the best. Cool indeed. Congratulations, Corran!
Thanks Merg! I imagine this emulsion might fall apart more so I'll probably make some prints this weekend before I try to put it in a sleeve.

As Plaubel used to say "Every Studio Needs a Reflex Camera".
S K Grimes manufactured this 4x5 Graphic Film Holder, it's a new and different design, for Plaubel Makiflexes. Here is Makiflex Auto #3 with the Schneider barrel 270mm Tele-Xenar. The Film holder is Arca Swiss 9x12cm Film Holder, you cannot remove the darkslide until it is on the camera. The S K Grimes Adapter is solid and virtually light leak proof. The Stovepipe is also 4x5 Arca Swiss, the Monocular Eyepiece swivels up or back. Very High Eyepoint view with a nice black border. So for 9x9cm images on 9x12cm sheet film, this will be one of my main go-to setups.

My olde event camera (25th Anniversary 500C/M) with CdS Prism finder, exposures through it are quite accurate TTL. Also updated with Hasselblad CFV16 fat pixel Digital Back. Fresh batteries and charger ordered from B&H, Card Adapter ordered from the UK (excellent suggestion!), Micro Phone Cards from local Walmart. Added the Focus Levers on all my V lenses. Ready for fat pixel Digital fun.
I have discovered I have a nearly complete set of Blad Diopters, for the CdS Finder. So now I will be able to sharpen up the viewfinder (to my eye). Helpful as focus is tricky to nail with this thing. The Cross Matte Finder is a no-go, I'm switching back to the Acute CFV16 Focus Screen that came with this package. The Matte Cross Screen shines with the long Tom V lenses.

A 30.5mm Lens Hood arrived for my freshly overhauled 65mm F6.8 Schneider Angulon lens. This is right out of the Plaubel catalogs of the day, mounted on correct Recessed Peco Junior Board. Fun to look through, I enjoy using Angulons, and this one is so tiny! This one will be getting some use in the field, when I want to travel light with view camera. That's my Swiveling Magnifier Hood, camera takes Makina Backs 6.5x9cm, and plates as well. Yellow 30.5mm Filter is comin'.

Back in the day this was the hottest Pentacon Six to be found anywhere. I sent a pair of these bodies to Pentacon in Dresden and they upgraded them to full Exakta 66 MK2 mode. The body was then covered with "Rollei SL66 Anniversary Diamond Rubber" which I procured from the Rollei factory. The Strap Lug Attachment was made for the EX66. Photograph made in my studio by direct flash. Hasselblad 100mm F3.5 Planar, 70mm Kodak Surveillance Film, processed in ADOX Borax MQ. Silver B&W print on RC paper

Nice ones Jon, especially that third one!
Normally this time of year I visit Mississippi but sadly came down with the flu. I think I'm on the upswing but anyway, I've been editing some astro images from earlier this month.
First is my favorite Pleiades image thus far:

And an image of the Orion Nebula:
