This is 75 feet of unopened DuPont Cronar High Speed Pan expired in 1964. I have loaded about a 220 length to try it; the emulsion looks good not mouldy or anything like that. It was 500 ASA film so it will be fun to see what comes of it; Could also be respooled into 616. I will load it in one of my Graflex RH50 4x5 Graphlock holders (film gate is 6x7cm). Anybody here familiar with this film? This is very thick stock, I will say that.

Hasselblad A70 70mm Film Back "Rubber Wheels" arrived today from the Ukraine! They look good and I'll test them as I have time. Replacing these cogs with the "sprocket wheel" in the A70, allows you to run unperforated film in the Hasselblad 70mm Film Magazine. Which really opens up a lot of 70mm film options, there is a lot of unperforated out there. Top sides and bottom sides shown here.

The cool thing about having multiple Normas, is that you can leave them set up for a while. Classic Rembrandt Lighting, Broncolor Beauty Light pointed straight down from up high as possible. Silver reflector on the floor tilted towards the subject. Lens is 300mm chrome Schneider Xenar, on custom made Norma board. Xenars are lovely to shoot through at near full aperture. The focus blows out behind the front row of petals which I find attractive. Strobe meter says F22 at EI 50 so just one pop will do. Canvas Background is by David Maheu "Tim Kelly Classic Grey" Like it Stormy Grey middle key with no corner vignettes. I can vignette with light if required. I'll be shooting 18x24 Kodak Mammo film and I'm thinking of going back to using straight Microdol-X for a shorter time, like five minutes. Think "Pull Processing" XRAY film gets too hot easily and needs some chemical restraint. Nothing like big negs for contact printing direct. BTW you can see the Norma 18x24cm framelines on the glass so the film image will be cropped as such. About 25 cents a sheet versus eight bucks for B&W Kodak 8x10 film.

This is rainy foggy day handheld digital view camera photography. Plaubel Peco Junior with 240mm Schneider black barrel Tele-Arton wide open. Handheld exposure NexC3 Digital Back JB Welded to Peco Junior board. I like the bokeh and lower contrast rendering, thanks to the olde Tele-Arton formula. Making up this digital unit enables me to use this lens for the first time :) Lens mounted on 3D printed board from Italy, I added light foam trapping and it works OK. Did repaint the back of the lensboard with black Krylon

Plaubel Makiflex Graflex RH50 70mm Back, Kodak Surveillance Film, D23 1:1 20 minutes at 62F. Two reel Paterson Tank Modded 70mm Reel holds 220 length, I like the WL Surveillance (bank camera film?) very high speed, pushes to 1600 EI with good results. As you can see I bracketed the roll to give myself choices in negative selection. 70mm HP5+ also available and has a different rendering than this stuff. The D23 provides a wide range of soft tonality that I kind of like. Previously I have been developing this film in replenished ADOX Borax MQ, which results in a much "beefier" looking negative. Good to have a choice

Page One of my original Peco Junior Brochure. Yesterday I have acquired the LENS on this camera; the 150mm F4.2 Plaubel Anticomar. Said to be "kind of flary" my 100mm F4.2 Anticomar on a Makina IIIR is sharp as a razor. Plaubel said that the F4.2 Anticomar 100mm is for "reportage, commercial, and travel". So we will soon see. Coming from Austria. Comes mounted in a Compur shutter as you see here. Should be a great combo.

6.5x9cm Plaubel Makina III with 100mm F4.2 Orthometar, which is Plaubel's sharp commercial lens. Notice the precision framing, I used to do a lot of Architectural Photography for Architects. Nice one!

Speaking of digital...I've been messing around with the idea of a small digital cam for those times where I would like that convenience. So I bought for under $150 a Light L16 camera. An interesting little thing that I heard about but the initial pricetag was crazy. Well it's a quirky camera but very capable. Here's a shot I took today of my new car:

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFZ_jyVDU4OA-eYcNoI-koftbc6EFAY2kG0LtnwP-Qw2XcBtkluocVrgjo5pbNfNc0RVZaozjTmHW9f2DcusvEZzzk7m68-0eZcF9fug_tqTf7Os5U5zejn93yDNfgXku7b-Br9gsPa8E4fuNheHxsS-BNV9jE-zgp-H458HZH2O9FjBtO2RlnJTHr/s900/L16_00032s.jpg

On that note - it's an 1985 Corvette with just over 13,000 miles on it (!). I drove it back from Illinois. Took the top off for the first time I think in its life and cruised around town! Looking forward to an occasional drive with this along with my classic film cams, of course! I brought along my Nikon F4 and Widelux F7 on this trip and need to develop the film - both cameras from the same time period or thereabouts. I am thinking I might do some car shows and mock up this car like it is from a late 80s photojournalist, ready to rush to a news scene - F4 and a telephoto on a window mount, F3 and a fast 50 in the seat, press passes hanging from the rear view window... :)

The zebra 180mm F2.8 CZJ Sonnar (uber hacked rear mount completely removed, refitted into Plaubel Peco Jr recessed board). Makiflex Standard FOMA 200 Mic-X. Lens will just cover, 18"x18" area is as far out as it will focus. Amazing Sonnar bokeh. This lens is a fave for Pentacon Six fans, this is pushing the envelope with larger format. I like the delicate natural lighting on this one.

Those are fun, Bryan. How is the camera to use? Is it fairly responsive and intuitive to use?

Corran
16-Apr-2023, 09:00
It's intuitive if you don't mind cell phone style controls. Responsive... No, it's slow and cumbersome and a pita to edit. But the results are good and it fits in my back pocket so it's earning it's keep! Using it for social media posts for the arts organization. Ain't got time for film on socials.

On July 4, 2022, a mass shooting occurred during the Independence Day parade in Highland Park, Illinois. The shooting occurred at 10:15 a.m, roughly 15 minutes after the parade had started. Seven people were killed, and 48 others were wounded. I live a block from where this occurred—this year will be a somber Fourth of July.

This all fits in the small Zone VI White Bag, looks like a picnic cooler. Restored Plaubel Peco Junior body with Jim Galvin Glenn Evans Graflex Roll Back modded to Peco Junior. Made to nicely hold Singer Graflex 120/220 Roll Backs. Two RH8 2.25x3.25, two RH10 6x7cm, one 220 RH20. Three Fujinon GX680 lenses modded to Plaubel Junior Boards. From the left, the 125mm F5.6 GX680, then the 50mm F5.6 GX680, then on the right, the 180mm F5.6 GX680. All three lenses work perfectly with the standard length Plaubel Peco Jr Rail. Film loaded is Ilford PanF+, Ilford Delta 100, Shanghai 220 EI 100, Maco ORT25, Ilford FP4+, Ilford HP5+. So this I'll be taking out this spring, on an olde Star-D tripod. The tripod has a shoulder strap for traveling, and the bag is HEAVY but has everything I need plus room for odds and ends. Apertures on the shutters fully correctly marked, and verified through direct measurement of the lens front irises. All now perfect ready for fully testing. Eight 120 test rolls have yielded perfect frames, some outside tests and some studio stuff. Will post photos soon. These lenses are sharp enough for digital medium format. Hmmmmmm

This is just a proof-of-concept. I took a Wollensak 8 3/4" Verito, a lens likely from the 1920s, stuck it on a tube, and put it on a Nikon Z7II. The only way to focus is by moving back and forth, and at this extension, only closeups were possible. Anyway, Nilla volunteered to help out....

We've started to go once a year. It's only about an hour and a half south from us.

Here's one more from the finale. They do 3 joust shows a day, with an overarching story that usually ends in duels and a few dramatic squibs. I saw the sword gleaming in my viewfinder and fired off a half-dozen frames:

I am curious to know, if anyone here has tried yet, the 120 version of Eastman 5222 XX roll film? BTW B&H has the best deal on this I have found, at $11.99/roll.

That's a lot, but they had to invest in a master roll from Kodak to pull this off. So IMO it is worth supporting this. XX is my long fave 35mm emulsion, in medium format it should be delicious :)

Love that glowing blade. Reinforces my perception of the Mandalorian on horse back that I got from the jousts.

Thanks Peter! Yeah, I am shocked at how good this film is despite the age. I was having some nostalgia about when our Cub Scout troop helped at a balloon event, both inflation and chasing the balloon. I looked up an old pic from then and it was dated 1995, which is probably about when this film was initially made. Just thought that was a funny coincidence.

My eyes widened when I saw this 100 year olde 13.5cm F4.2 Anticomar lens (shutter huffed) on Ebay. I made an offer and it was accepted. Then took it to Mac at Camtronics who did an expert CLA on it. We both think it is 1930's era so 100 years olde, prolly off an olde 9x12cm Plaubel Folder. Cut and flocked a 3D printed Peco Junior board from Italy, painted the lens back with Flat Black Krylon with brush, it was really UGLY. Luscious to look through, but slightly hazy, as are all my Orthometars. Kind of like that Orthometar "look" kinda retro. Anyways a good example of how I restore something others might disgard. I see 100 examples of F2.9 Orthometar, to one F4.2 Orthometar. The "sharp" lens for commercial, reportage, and travel according to Plaubel. Works like new on my long rail Peco Junior. Finally I found a dark yellow glass disc in my filter box, and cut a strip of Hollywood Gaffer Tape, to attach it to the new F4.2 "Sharp" lens.

Recently I bought an original more modern 150mm F4.2, nice to have something just slightly wider if much older :)

During dinner, Minolta SRT101 with 21mm F4 MLU lens was set squarely on dinner table, and made a minutes long exposure with cable release straight up into the ceiling. Camera positioned by a total guess. Was fun to do. Eastman XX film processed in Legacy Mic-X. Omega DII with LED head, 80mm F4 Rodagon Arista #2 Ultra RC paper 5x7. Tuco,

Your photos have a really good sense of place, if that makes any sense. I haven't been able to travel much these last couple of years, and I was only out to the Pacific Northwest once, but it's fun to travel there via your pictures!

A beautiful and chilly winter hike with my dogs near my home a number of years ago revealed this scene. Shot on HP-5+ with my Minolta XD-11 and MD 24mm F2.8 and developed with DD-X long before I knew anything about changing the contrast range with different development times.

Thanks very much! Finding the right tonal values in my images is probably the single most important thing I pursue. I feel that the life and breath of a photograph is found in the greys - not the black and the white.

Omega DII laser aligned 150mm F5.6 Black Rodagon 5x7 Arista RC #2 Dektol 1:2. Liked how the snow covered the table top, focused on the central wheel. The Makina 120 6x9cm Film Back fits the Peco Jr, Makiflexes, and Makinas. So the backs move around on the cameras. I used the Peco Jr Magnifying Hood with swivel and Magnifying Lens, I can shift top and bottom, or left and right, and brightly examine the images. Well enough to see the sharpness on the screen.

It's been well over a year since weather and time cooperated so I could do some astro imaging. I received a Nikon 500mm f/4 lens in the mail this week so good timing to try it out - I also bought a Nikon 1.4x TC to replace the Kenko one I've been using and immediately notice the difference. Here is the Pillars of Creation in the Eagle Nebula with the above, cropped a bit:

tuco, I'd love to see more of that area in Washington. Seems peaceful.

A couple more astrophotography targets edited from Tuesday. I didn't spend all night on one, but bounced around and shot 5 total, just to refresh myself on doing this. I was pleased to be able to get similar results in shorter time using this larger lens with more light-gathering power on Andromeda. Later this year I'd like to get a good clear night and spend the entire evening making an image of Andromeda. The other is my first try at the Veil Nebula.
